Yep, I originally went over to sell him the pannasonic, and that's when he told me about this other old radio I might want to have a look at :-D

badboybill, please accept my apologies as you were right, the woofers ARE 10" as I measured again once I opened the case. The cone area was only 8" but the actual woofer assembly is 10".

So, I opened the case to find lots of cob webs, and discovered what was rattling around in there. It was the 4 missing cassette keys!
Now I don't have to worry about sourcing them, although I did not find the missing buttons so they will have to be sourced.

I find it quite a shame that the outside most tweeters are fake. I was hoping this box had real 6 speaker sound, but it is only a 4 speaker unit with phonies.

no problem man!!! These are killer machines on looks but the sound to me is very low kinda like the Mono JVC 550. It also has a 10 inch woofer but the sound is so low :-( you think with all that space they could have made it a double deck and huge amp to actually push them 10's plus have a 6 speaker system :-/

So I took it completely apart, gave most of it a bath, and just buttoned it back up save for the cassette door windows which came un-glued as I washed it and I do have to say it's looking much better. A lot cleaner to say the least. Having all the cassette keys really finishes it up more, but the left cassette door has the top hooks broken off so it hangs low :(

I need to replace that door, find an alarm sensor cover, and the several buttons/knobs shown missing in the pics. I'll post the pics I have of my process in a sec. I will take an outside shot tomorrow if it's sunny :-) .

I forgot to mention that the woofers barely play, but they did briefly make noise but cut out mostly so I'm going to have my radio guy look the unit over and get it working decently if possible; fix the cassette decks etc.

Hand washed the chrome

Soaping the case in my stand-up shower was less easy than a tub shower

I liked this shot for size comparison. This box is huge!

I sanded the grills a bit and coated them in flat black like they were stock. I could have sanded better but this will do.

A quick photo, still missing the cassette door plastic inserts which came out when washing.

That's so fricken fantastic and I can't believe folks are still giving ghetto blasters away some 25 - 30 years later... I sold a bunch of parts to someone in Australia a while back, including cassette keys... not sure if it's a member here or not. Well done!

Yeah, he even offered to hold it while I got a drive as he thought it would be too heavy to carry home (1+hr walk for me). My though is, never give the chance for any thinking and just take it right away. You never know who can change their mind. Here's a sunny pic as I said I'd take!
