The best part is - I don't feel like I’m on borrowed time every time I turn it on. I can’t escape that feeling when I’m listening to vintage. Don’t get me wrong - I passionately love my vintage units but the Aiwa provides me with worry free use and I love that.
Online, people feel the need to pick this radio part and try to prove that it’s somehow “less” than a proper vintage radio. It makes me wonder if they are missing the point. 40 years on, audio technology, materials, and manufacturing methods have advanced. The Aiwa is the perfect mediator between the past and the present.

You and I are on the exact same page. That's the main reason I plan to take this to the beach. I can crank it without worrying about a 40 year old woofer surround that might decide to rip and start farting or a cassette motor or electrical component that's decided its had enough, etc..

I enjoy my vintage units like you said but I there is something to be said for being able to relax when you use your radio. Best of all, if the worst happens to it, for another 250 bucks, you can get another one versus hard to get and/or even unavailable parts. Plus they have a 1 year warranty and that is nice too.

I would imagine so. They may show differences in wattage input due to varying voltage inputs they are rated for, but I would think the amp chip is still the same as well as the speakers.

Yeah I doubt anything inside is different. They're all made by the same manufacturer (Leotec)

Yes, that's exactly right.
All boomboxes have the same technical specifications
with a difference in the radio tuner, some also have a DAB tuner.

Here is why I think it is:
A - these are the screws that hold the front grilles.
B - these are the screws that hold the speakers.
C - these are the 4 ribbed elements that limit the speakers.
D - this is where the screw on the housing is screwed in.
I do not think that a larger speaker can be installed,
which would step on these ribbed elements C and be screwed into the sockets A.

Yep , you are right . You can't go across the ribbed parts.
