Hello and greetings to all of you from Finland!

I have been browsing this forum for a bit and recently joined in myself since this looks like a cool community. This is my collection of boomboxes so far:

Sharp GF-9696

Panasonic RX-4950

I have admired classic boomboxes for a while and I'm happy to own some of my own now. Happy new year to everyone!

Hi HankAPLD,

Welcome aboard! Those are some very nice boxes you've got there. You certainly have good taste in boxes.
Enjoy your time here.

Happy New Year!

Hey Hank and welcome, some good choices there. I have both and they are very good. The M70 is a quality box and the Sharp is nice to and loaded with features.

Happy new year to you :)

The M70 is really nice. I like the fact that it's easy to work with. When I got it the cassette belt was worn out and played poorly but it was much easier to replace than I feared it would be due to the modular design of the M70's internals. All the parts are screwed to a frame that is then screwed to the actual box. Very convenient for repairs. There are still some minor issues with the capstan and the pinch roller that needs fixing but other than that the M70 is fully working, the MMS system included. :-D

The Sharp and Panasonic boxes are working flawlessly with no problems and are in great condition imo.

The GF-9696 is one of my favourite boomboxes, it sounds really good even after 30+ years and is in almost perfect condition (only some minor wear). I like that the European version has black plastic behind the speakers, which give it a nice two tone look when you remove the removable protective mesh in front of the speakers. The black also makes the chrome stand out more I think. The design of the speakers them selves also look pretty cool, sort of like modern coaxial speakers for cars.

An update:

This arrived at my place on Friday:

It's the JVC RC-M80! The packing could have been better but the b-box survived. It looks a little odd but sounds about as good as an M70 but with less power. The digital tuner works and radio comes in loud and clear. The cassette decks sort of works, cassettes sound weird because the pinch roller is worn out and needs to be fixed. The LED display looks really rad, espescially when scanning for stations and the lights move back and forth.

It's a little dirty and needs to be cleaned at some point when I have the time. That aside, it's a nice and unusual addition to the collection.
