OK, I managed to route the majority of the cables so that the chassis fits back in place & no problems, binding or uneven mating between the front cabinet & chassis.....I fit the remote eye at the left corner of the LED tuner dial inset. The sensitivity knob is down below on the front panel by the JVC emblem. Now, I have to route the cables, create my multi-splitter cables & set the leds for the woofers & hopefully the tweeters so I have a busy night ahead.

By tomorrow night, I should have a working prototype in alpha testing...

Video of a short preview is on it's way....stay tuned....

So far I like how it's coming together...

UPDATE: Woofers lit up finally. Now I have to do the final splice & dice so I can fit the cables all in there neatly & without blocking the rest of the radio's parts & cables, etc....

video coming shortly of the first M80 DISCO prototype RGB system...

next will be, splitter cable fabbing, routing, assembly & testing...

Stay tuned...

Wow! I really like the lights inside the woofer area, That's a neat effect with the rectangular grille pattern. The unit really needs something to define the speaker more, since there are no chrome rings around them. Love the sensor idea

Thanx Caution!! :-D

Yeah, this one is a bit tough since there is not a lot of room in there for wires, LEDs, etc....

I'm planning on finishing it this week & then I have a PROSONIC to do next....

Stay tuned....

Hey Kiddies & mod freaks, back to update the thread with the latest details. I finalized the wiring for the LEDs & managed to tuck the controller card between the tuning board & digital control boards, etc. so that when it's all back together, the controller is not even visible. I used layers on layers of electrical tape to fully insulate the controller so that no shorts or cross connections were possible & the unit uses the same fused power supply as the rest of the radio so if anything goes wrong the fuse will blow right away & protect the rest of the original electronics.

I'm in the process of tapping the DC voltage into the mainboard & past the power block & supply switching circuit so that the LEDs run on batteries, AC or AC-DC adapter, without any extra or special connections. Simply use the blaster as originally intended & enjoy!!

I'm really hoping the M50 woofers warm up the sound & improve dynamic range for the M80. They are a perfect replacement for the stock woofers which were an older paper design with a mesh dustcap--

Same dimensions, magnets, impedance & wattage rating so they should work out awesome & they were the only other woofers that would fit since the chassis is so tight on the M80, it's ridiculous. That's what took me so long to do this mod. I had to find the room, route the cables without causing interference, etc.

Stay tuned. Video to come shortly after testing...

Well, I hit a snag getting it all back together & will have to tear it apart to fix one connection for the left corner LEDs. I think the BLUE channels on the strip is heating up & shorting out or something but will post a vid of the first run soon....

Stay tuned....

BTW, the M50 woofers sound bang ON with way more bass & warmth as I had hoped they would. I'll try to convey that in the video if possible. LEt me know if anyone can hear a difference thru the vids & such....

Also, a previous owner had the tweeters wired in a weird way that didn't make sense so going in there with the new woofers also gave me the opportunity to straighten out the BS hack that I inherited....

Stay tuned... :afro:

Nice brite RGB LEDs for my cassette bay

All back together & waiting for the knob & buttons for the manual tuning & sliders

Even from an angle it still looks mean to me....

As you can tell, when the Blue LEDs light up, the left corner is malfunctioning....

Thanx SLO! :-D The woofers sound good too, no rattles so I guess I got a good even coat on the woofers & the surrounds are original so they'll thump just a tad deeper because of the added gram or 2 in weight....

So far, I really like the sound much better & the wiring with the new caps is finally correct so a GIANT difference in both clarity & bass response. Also, the M50 speakers are physically identical & have the same impedance as the originals so they match the tweeters perfectly & sound very good...

Well, to update, I pulled it apart again & am now working on rooting out the offending piece. I got it down to a 20 minute tear-down & re-assembly so I my design works well & is quite serviceable. Each LED segment has it's own connection & my splitters gang all the LED connections together so only one plug is needed to connect to all LEDs to the controller. 2 more connections for the Remote sensor & sens. control & the card can be removed & replaced. 4 easy connections including power...

Now I have to sort out which section of the circuit is bad. I have a feeling the strip is malfunctioning & I have to tear out the old one & glue in a new strip. This happens once in a while when you nick the LEDs somewhere & it only goes bad after heating up for a while...

BAM!!!

Stay tuned....

Ok, Alll fixed up & the leds are functioning fine. I did manage somehow to mis-align the chassis when I tried to re-assemble everything because I was concentrating too hard on something else at the time & managed to snap the FM button on the band selector. OUCH!! :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:

It still works perfectly well on FM but no AM or SW anymore....That's OK, the deck was never working right anyway so FM & Line-in are fine with me. Both work perfectly well & sound quite good. A video is coming soon once I set it up later tonight....

So far I am glad I did it anyway & it sounds & looks amazing & again unique which is always a design philosophy I try to adhere to.

BAM!! :dj-party:
