My new Panasonic

Last week I received a new boombox, that I caught at Yahoo Japan – the Panasonic RX-FW38. It was produced for Japanese market only and seems to be quite rare.
Funny thing is, that all decals are in English.
It works without problems with double auto reverse, just need a new arial. Sound is quite good with Loudness enabled.

As for vents initially I thought they were a part of the sound labyrinth but
having seen no switches for ambient, wide, bass boost, etc.
guess there are for cosmetic purposes. But maybe those are still sound ports?

Yep, that does it for me!

It's a good looking mini with a complimentary, yet unpretentious, colour scheme - a mini to draw the eye and invite appreciation.

Yes, this boombox is more on the “nice looking” then on the “sophisticated” side.
The vents on the side are just a “design thing”. They have no function (no connection to the speakers). It also has no ambience mode, just “low – high” sound slider and a Loudness switch.
For cleaning I opened the box. It has just one motor for both decks and all functions; together with a solenoid, one huge and two small belts.

But I like it anyhow.

No, it is 76 - 108Mhz. The area above 90 is only marked as usual as "TV Channel"

I agree with others. Just when you think you've seen them all...up pops a unique box. Very practical and easy to carry Nice Radio

The big boomboxes always gets all the attention but I personally think that these small boomboxes, especially the panasonics and sanyos, sound fantastic. Usually they have a very wide soundstage, emit lively and crisp dynamic sound.
