Ok, technically NOT a boombox, and it's 7 feet tall. But it's an all-in-one self contained thingamajig, which is what a boombox is all about right? And I'm a car guy, always has been, so what do you expect? :-D

Saw this on FB marketplace recently. I guess FB is good for something. Anyhow, I couldn't resist and threw the guy an offer ($5 off his asking price so not really a reason to turn down). A few moments later deal done, I drove over, muscled it into my truck and the rest is history. And to think I JUST cleaned out the garage recently. Oh well, that's the life of a packrat.

It's a vintage Delco radio display center. :w00t: The kind you'll find in the showroom of a new car dealership. Came with 3 vintage headunits, a 12V power supply, a Delco CD changer of some sort which I haven't connected back yet, also some circuitry to switch the units, a pair of 6x9 speakers, and another smaller pair of speakers (probably for the doors). There's also something that looks like a cell antenna so not sure what that's for. I still haven't reassembled and plugged everything back in (I disconnected a lot of it to prevent snagging and ripping off any of the harness while moving it). I might clean and repaint the dusty feet. Or not. Extremely heavy as it's made of that thick condensed particle wood ****. Should I cover the back of the speakers with some panels to seal the compartment and give the speaker drivers more oomph? Guess I'll have to wait and see how she sounds as-is. It does have slots on both sides of the rear for which I presume is to slide a flexible panel behind to cover it up.

Anyhow, I love it, think it's cool as freek. If I get tired of one radio, I can switch to another! :w00t: :w00t: :w00t: And because most of my vehicles are all GM, you might say I'm a GM guy and therefore, this fits right at home. That is until it gets old and no longer cool, then I might have to get rid of it. In the meantime, it's my new source for garage tunes. Rock on!

Oh, man! Talk about the geek factor! LOL  :w00t:  That is awesome, Norm. I think my mom's 1991 Grand Am had that top unit - or something very similar.

Oh man I would have jumped on that , you couldn't ask for a more convenient setup lol.
I would add a sub to it and maybe add a fourth head unit.

3 Radios in one :w00t: I love it. Excellent Norm. When growing up I used to install car radios. A lost art now since most newer cars incorporate the entire operation into one touch screen now.

I miss the days where you could replace or upgrade your radio if you wanted.

Nice score for sure. I'm sure it'll make a great radio for the garage :-)

This has to be the coolest workshop/ garage radio!

Just need a vintage (defunkt) Pontiac sign to put the cherry on top!

Epic - and space for a Boombox at the base so how cool is that?! Great find and even better to have the space for something as large as this.

A sub? Good idea! :w00t: I didn't think about that. Not sure how I would implement it though since the switching equipment doesn't exactly come with instructions, lol. As for a 4th head unit..... seriously, what can you do with 4, that you can't do with 3?

Wow, you're right! Didn't even notice. And if I stack them sideways, can maybe even fit 4 or 5 of them. :hmmm:

Very cool! Definitely seal it up, add some fiber-fill, and light up those signs at the bottom!

Haha
Fire a car battery in the bottom, and some casters, take it for a walk downtown
Guaranteed chick magnet!

Seriously that thing had to cost a few thousand dollars to build, those radios weren't cheap neither was the labor and materials.

I think it cost more than that. See that orange document holder on the backside? I looked at it and it's a order/bill for the item manufactured specifically for by delco. It also includes some dedicated electronics to switch all the radios and then there's the harness rigging. All looks pretty custom and professionally done. Each unit also has it's own antenna (they are those orange wires on the rear that are tacked up vertical). That control module also has some RJ-45 type jacks on them, probably for programming. It's sort of a novelty for me and until I find a spot for it, I'm not gonna hook everything up yet. That CD changer and control adds some weight too which due to the already crazy weight of this assembly, I don't want to add to until I've got it set where I want it.
