i waited patiently to work this deal through and the guy who sold it to me was super friendly and super nice to deal with.
its all there the tape and radio working and well it does sound very nice.
the only thing i need to see about is the power switch. it works intermittently and i am suspecting it only needs a good clean and should be about it.
it is what it is. i got it for a more than fair price. we haggled the asking price down slightly due to the bad switch.
this is a well loved survivor and i am very happy to have brought her home.

this is one of the boxes i told myself i would stop procuring other boxes if i found and well so shall it be. i have enough now and of course if in my tavels a grail shows its face for cheap again it will come to my house with me.

so much has been said how these sound i dont think i need to say anymore.
its not a hundred points but with minimal work it would be.

on that model --
the batteries hang in there without the cover :breakdance:

and if the springs are old -
he can wedge a few pennies in there

works for me ;-)

thanks bobby. i just finished cleaning it and well there wasnt much cleaning to do.
the tape deck has been playing flawlessly for about a hour and a half now.
the radio works great all the band work excellent. the antennas are in grand shape handle is aok.
the woofers still have some blue to them but they have faded a bit.
the backside of it is not warped from heat or anything like that.
the front aluminum trim could use a glue down but it is hanging in there great.
the corners of the box are in really really good shape. no huge gouges or really bad scratches on it.
the top right corner has a small scritch in it. nothing too bad tho.
there is no battery cover but the battery compartment is well flawless.
the guy i bought it from also had a really old jvc nivinco box i think it was in flawless shape.
not my thing but it was really mint.
tuner works very nice on this m70 smooth and no binding which is nice.
shortwave bands all working.
power switch needs tlc but i have it in on position now and will most likely just unplug it when i need to turn it off.

sound wise it is what it is . it sounds like a m70.
no crackling or static in any of the sliders music scan seems to work as well allthough i have not put it through its paces other than turning it on.
dial light turns on when i push the button down.
needles bounce the way they are supposed too.
i am very very happy for this boombox to come to my home.
i mean for a unrestored well loved boombox it is in pristine shape for its age and well i certain it will live for some time to come.

Bill, the power switch on these is not the greatest design. The button itself is simply a lever that flips the switch, which is in reality, a copper leaf spring that sometimes loses it's tension. That switch takes a lot of current. If it oxidizes, the connection begins to deteriorate and poor connection = heat. Well, we all know what heat does to springs.

Sooo, I've sucessfully fixed these by vigorously cleaning the contacts, treating them with deoxit gold preservative (100% pure, with brush, not the spray) then carefully bending the spring as needed to restore the proper tension. Then again, maybe the switch is still working but just heavily oxidized. You'll know by watching the action of the switch. If the action works reliably but you aren't getting any continuity, then oxidation. If you observe the action and sometimes it catches, sometimes not, then you'll know that switch is going to need some attention. Careful though, the copper spring is bent in an arch -- that's the hard part.

Anyhow, Good luck and great looking box.

Congratulations Bill!! Well played, brother, time and patience pay off in the long run.

Hope to hear a full review of what you think of her sound, I certainly rate mine as one of my best sounding.

thanks man. i was suspecting the button for the swtich was a little different. i am suspect that the springs tention is starting to go i mean when i flip the switch it sometimes catches and more so if i am quick when i flip it.

Congrats Bill, Patience can pay and you scored.

Yeah that switch is funky but like SD already described it's not that difficult to deal with.
