I had been looking for one of these for a while and finally came across one on epay. There were actually 2 up for bid at one time. One seller wanted $250 as a starting bid and one seller started at 99 cents. I put in a bid of $40 and forgot about it. When I checked on it a few days later I won it for $38! From the ebay pics it appeared in good condition with faded buttons for the radio stations, cassette controls, and handle. When it arrived it was dusty and had some paint and rust stains on the speaker grills.

I stripped it down in about 45 minutes but the front speaker grill was VERY difficult to remove. I painted all the faded parts and put it back together. This radio has excellend sound with very clean highs and surprisingly solid, deep bass. The sound clarity is especially nice when on the wide setting. The controls are very firm and have a high end feel to them. The speaker cone centers get the white appearance from a white cloth cover on the center nipple. I am extremely pleased with this radio and happy with how it looks now. Here are some before and after pics....

Looks great! But are you sure those parts were faded? I thought that's how they originally were. Every single one of those boxes I've seen had the same tan-colored tape keys. In any case, tan is ugly ---- you made the right choice in painting them silver.

Wow! Excellent restoration, Melly!
I love this model, I got to hear sony_apm_fan's Silver AKA of it and was super impressed with the sound.
And I love the mirror on the sides of the LED meters. Killer design.

Rock On.

All of those parts Melly painted looked badly faded to me, and the box looked nasty like that, in my opinion. I think painting them was 100% the right thing to do.

...thanks for all the great comments. I am very happy with the results as she turned out beautifully. I must say I am really impressed with the sound of this box...the bass is solid and deep for a midsized boomer and the smooth highs compliment an overall great sounding box. Definitely money well spent...
