I have this one too, but I don't know, mine doesn't sound anywhere near as good as my other tosh, the 9990. actually I'll put it way down in the bottom with the captain in my collection if anything, which is not bad, but its got nothing on aiwa 770, sharp 9696, crown 850 etc. Am I doing it wrong lol ? But it does look darn good.

Peace
Yep you're doing something wrong or yours is not well...this is a great sounding box, top quality. Sounds better than my 770

Of course, it depends on your criteria for judgement. I found that model sounded good with emphasis on clarity but the bottom end was a bit weak-sauce so, naturally, if you compare it to 2-way systems with big woofers & loudness, etc. you will hear a different sound....

The Tosh shines when playing classical or JAZZ, Blues, Rock, etc but 808's & the hip hop crowd will want more in the woofer department...

The finish & build quality is very good, especially for a mid-size beat box & the wrap around tuning window is very unique & I would say, gorgeous....

The 9990 has a bit stronger amps according to the Toshiba advertisements.

As far as the 770 goes, I was never all that impressed with that box.....Sure, it has more bass than this, but the detail & accuracy was weak. Plus the tuner felt cheap. No wide setting either.

I would say that was a very accurate description...as I said before it's got great highs and mids. But yes it's not a bassy machine. Looks and build quality are very good

Ok guys I poked around a bit inside because this all sounds too good to be true, I found the small speakers in the middle of the bigger ones weren't working. Just a broken connection, so I soldered them back in place in 15 min. Now it sounds not marvellously better, but much better than I remembered. But I do listen to mostly hip hop, so I am partial to crown 850 etc. And obviously sound is very different to different people, as I for one love my 770A ! just feels fuller than the bombeat 16, while to toshiba does have some great highs and wide mode.

Peace

Well done on improving it!...without the mid range speakers I'm sure it sounded pretty crappy. It's definitely not a hip hop box but still a cracker imo :-)

I like to see how those middle tweeter mounts.

How does it look like? Is it mounted on the center magnet?

Thanks! Can't remember exactly how the middle speakers were mounted on the main woofers, will have to have a closer look when I have time :-)
