I have before only bought boxes on fleas and local pickups. It's been great fun and of scored some really nice boxes (I'll some updated pictures of my collection shortly). BUT I've kind of been looking for a box that is both fully functioning and in great physical shape. Well I thought I had myself a good deal when I got this box off of ebay: http://www.ebay.de/itm/300610380354?ssP ... 579wt_1102

Translation: http://translate.google.com/#de|en|Crow ... %20Versand)%0A%0Aweitere%20Fragen%20per%20mail%20oder%200043%20(0)%20680%20318%2077%2028%0A%0A%20%0A%0Akeine%20Garantie%20-%20Gewährleistung%20und%20Rücknahme%20!!!%0A

It does play nicely, tape runs, radio works so I'm quite happy with its performance and excited to play a new box! BUT MINT? Looking at the pictures now I can see the scratch on the tuner dial but I didn't notice it until I received the box, and really there are chips and scratches on pretty much every edge and corner... :hmmm:

So am I just being a crybaby and didn't look at the pictures properly or do you guys think I am right to be bummed?
Seems to be a well respected seller and I think he might even be a member here...

Ask the seller for a partial refund, and if you don't get it - file a claim "Item not as advertised" with ebay and/or Paypal.

if i was paying good money for a 'mint' box, a partial refund would only be good if the money from that refund would make the box 'mint' again (a great condition tuner window lens for example) - otherwise i would want a full refund.

Thanks for your input guys! It is very appreciated!

Noticed now that the battery door is cracked all the way through and glued back together, one of the grills are slightly dented it's not all that visible though, and it crackles for a while when a tape is put on and when switching between modes. Honestly I don't think there is ANYTHING that actually is mint on this box... What would be reasonable to request as a refund? I would rather not mess with sending it back and all that... Now I can guess why he only took bank transfers  But 99% positive with almost one hundred deals, doesn't look like he's systematically ripping people off... :hmmm:

But Andy if asking for a full refund I'd have to send it back right? Shipping is EXPENSIVE to Germany from Norway...

i would return it for a full return if possible, even if shipping was expensive.

personally i couldnt bare to look at it, knowing what he has promised with his descprition - it would annoy the **** outta me :evilmad:

if he's a member on here he should be named or at least put his side to the story & help pay for return shipping.

description is OFF - and incorrect - you can get refund

paypal ebay is your friend here

you didn't pay top dollar though - but 123 euros for a 950 is premium nontheless

I would want it fully working and AS described for that price

in this state its worth $100 its a very nice box
in the $100 you need to include shipping
so be fair its worth something so ask for a part refund it the so no then get a full refund
and more on to the next box
but it is a nice box nun the least

I would at least seek a partial refund as the condition is not as stated...also anybody notice that handle?? That is not an original 950 handle....unless the Euro model is special in that way.

:agree: With everybody, that's not Mint. I think most people see MINT as being nearly flawless, a few tiny scratches or nicks may be acceptable but not the flaws that box has. You have several options as outlined already, partial refund and you keep the box or full refund and you pay to ship the box back. With eBay you shouldn't have any problem with the full refund portion the only drag is you have to pay to ship it back.

Good luck with whatever you decide, if you buy boxes on eBay it's inevitable that you'll eventually have to do this.

I did react to the handle as well. It's sort of strange looking, it's not original is it? I've approached him politely in a email, have to see what his response is...

The handle is not original. Bad story. I agree with all - this box is far from mint. Its pointless for full refund - youll pay the price of the box for double shipment tho :-/ . Fingers crossed all will be good  Sorry for such stories :-/ . Better stay on deals with members here.

I doubt shipping would be as much as you think. I have received several boxes from Germany to the US, for 45 euros

before u goin wild the seller IS a member here, and there'S no reason to be angry i think that this was only a big fault, he's sellin a lot of boxes on german ebay, and i think he dindt want to cheat on u....hope both of u will find a good solution :-)

I'm definitely not angry, I was really disappointed though as I thought that I had gotten a good deal and was expecting a nice mint box. I hope that he accidentally copied the wrong text or something similar seeing as he sells quite a few boxes. In that case it's all good, no doubt, as long as we both come to a agreement! BUT it is an unfortunate situation since shipping is 32 EURO which times 2 is a good chunk of what that box is worth... Well just gonna have to see...

so since he is a member on here, he will do the right thing & pay for return shipping & a full refund

thats what he should do in my opinion.

Is it any wonder that MOST members do not reveal their ebay user name :-)

Is it because they want to use Ebay to dump their problem-boxes without fully informing people about those problems? Yes I think so. :-)

You must not be a seller. Because any seller that makes any regular sales knows how hard it is to make any money on eBay. I disagree with the way the seller described it. But he might not be 100% knowledgeable as it sounds like he just picked this up and was probably ecstatic that it still plays, as many of you know, these relics are rarely found without functional issues after 35 years. I would not have been happy with his description but examples like that frequently trade for near that price anyhow, at least here in US. The description was subjective and in his mind, those blems probably wasn't that important. That's the problem with and why I don't even bother to try to describe things anymore -- just show lots of pictures and let the buyer decide. One's impression of what is a 7 or a 9 could be entirely off to another person. Any buyer seeing the term "mint" should know that it needs to be taken with a grain of salt when referring to 35 year old items.

It sure sounds like the item falls short of the buyers expectations but I get the feeling that he still likes it and wants to keep it. At least, that's the impression I get. So please -- the goal here is to find a solution that is amicable for both. The item is worth something and I doubt you can win one for less than $125 to $150 here in the US, certainly not in 100% operating condition. That is an enormously popular boombox. The absolute ONLY way I personally would return that boombox is if the seller is unwilling to work with the buyer at all, to account for the condition, which was not as described. To ship it back means the buyer loses a big shipping fee, the seller loses his shipping costs, the shipping company wins, both buyer and seller loses, and there is additional risk to the boombox for shipping damage.

Yes, there are a few rub marks on the corners and the glass can probably be polished out in 10 minutes. Is it mint? NO. Is it s piece of junk? Absolutely not. What's it worth? All I can say is around here, you can relist that tomorrow and probably get almost all, if not all your money back.
