Im planning to only get one............Ive got too much gear and dont have much room for more.

If only I hadda been keeping all the stuff that was brought to me and then not repaired because of the allure of the new. The shop I used to work in regularly had ghetto blasters in its skip bin when the manager would trade stuff that wasnt working for nix and then junk it. I didnt take it cause my garage was full of unworking guitar amps.

Oh well I guess you dont get you time twice.............

Something good will come along Im sure.

At least my modded D8444 has kinda awkward and "uptight" sound. And that is just because of those cheap 5" speakers. The low end in the other hand is astounding and even detailed on low to mid volumes, but only in the case you are driving the woofer with more than 10W RMS. Original amp has ONLY 3,2W RMS 10%THD for the woofer. And that really sux. I can't get my head around why on earth someone decided to give this "Power Player" such overly underwhelming amplifier.

Personally I would look for a Crown 850, it's got better bass than the Magnavox. Only average build quality though. If you want something that sounds good AND has top-notch build quality, look for a Sanyo M9994. Its controls are hifi quality.
As I see it, the Crown has the best feeling knobs (aluminium, and a huge volume knob) on any box I've tried. Though the sound isn't so crisp. Mine is in the works for tweeter replacement, fitting some vintage Philips tweeters. Also I think the 8 inchers really need a low pass filter.

If someone asked for a small to mid -sized box with really crisp and clear sound and very nice bass/size -ratio & alarm clock and sleep function, I would really suggest the Sanyo M9990. Seems like its the not-so-little brother of M9994.

If your gonna grab a Philips then I would suggest the d8614 no question. Awesome sound and looks and Philips most expensive box made at a retail price of $420 back in 82 :-)
