M90 vs Panasonic RX-5350

the m90 can never be toppled easily ,i dont know what the out come will be all i can say is the m90 is one of the most bad ass boxes around as is the 5350 ,i think it will be a tie for the most part , there aren't many boxes that can sound as good as the m90 at full crank but i guess theres room for one more lol.

, but the M90 is NO JOKE!!! 
Sadly, the only thing I can complain about the M90 is - and this only pertains to those who are into Hip-Hop and R&B 'cause most other music genres don't use it - that it can't faithfully pound out the bass kick of a Roland TR-808 drum machine. 
But then, M90's were out before the 808 existed and the woofer technology wasn't like it was from the mid 80's onward. That said, to me the M90 is the best box for everything but some Hip-Hop and R&B.

Johnny you won't be dissapointed, the M90 lives at the top of the one piecer hill and doesn't have to much company. You will find the 5350 and M90 worthy, my recomendation is to have both in your collection.

i think i remember the m90 being from 1981 ish. i could be wrong but i am almost positive that the first tr sounding machine i saw was at a music trade show with my uncle back in 1979. the cr8000 too hard for most to program.
i miss my 808. they flopped when roland introduced them but saw new life later on.

The M90 is probably, as were most top of the line JVC's, the best balanced of all the single piece chassis out there. That being said, it is a matter of opinion. I was lucky enough to have been around more electronics than I could ever spend time talking about because of my dad's carreer path and military surroundings. This afforded me an opportunity to listen to a lot of stuff. The 5350 is no joke. You will be hard pressed but to my ears, the JVC is clearer. The Panasonic may pound better, but it will not hit highs as good as the JVC. And the best premium portable decks go to JVC hands down as what you found in their to line home units you would find in the top line portables. Need a part? Check a thrifty for an old JVC deck of the era and see what you turn up. The deck in the PC-3 Jaetee has replacement parts that dropped right in from a home deck including the backlight. I know cause I installed it.

and all i can add is to review what everybody here already knows....
when the several top dog boxes are this good and this loud and powerful --
then we really run out of "comparo headroom"
so --at that point --the 'contests' all depend on the music played-
the room you are in -- the position of the box (in the room) --
or outside --
and whether those music passages prefer raw power or detailed clarity............
like comparing the mega-power wx1 to an m90 gives us lots a different results..
ie
they are 'all good'
and none are ALWAYS the best.

Well, I was wrong on the 808 release date
, but I didn't hear it being used until '82 when Marvin Gaye came out with "Sexual Healing" and in Hip-Hop when T-LaRock and Jazzy Jay came out with "It's Yours" in 1983. The bass kick from an 808 is the measuring stick for all big "boom"
boxes I buy. When it comes to Hip-Hop and R&B, if it can't reproduce that kick, it's a failure.
Thanks for the replies, I guess it would be hard to compare two great boomers and it would come down to preference.
I will post my review of the M90 with pics when it arrives, it is coming from original owner and hopefully will sound good. I will hold onto the 5350 for awhile simply because the longer I listen to it the unconventional looks of it... makes since...
Its amazing to me that these radios still sound this good after 25-30+ years!!!

I have the RX-5350 and had the RCM-90.
I would have to say that the 5350 is every bit as nice as an M-90 with the advantage
of a 5 band Eq and super cool Ambience wide mode.
IMO the 5350 does Hip Hop and electronic music better than M-90 due to its woofers .
The woofers are considerably tighter on M-90 so they dont move as much air.
You cant deny the crisp clean sound and highs of the M-90 though.
M-90 sounds awesome and probably a little more ouput but it does live instrument music best.
I am glad you decided to keep your 5350,I think you might down the line regret selling it,odd looks and all.
You will have to do a little comparo when you get it, let us know what you think.

No offense taken, my comparo was based on my m-90 with the original woofers.
It is alot quieter now with the marantz woofers because they are 8 ohm .
I dont base box comparisons on which one can go louder though.
Sound quality and build are the most important elements to me.
Both of these boxes definitely meet those requirements

I am a proud owner of a 5350 and an M90 and I tell u they both sound very good with solid bass and crisp highs, So congrats Johnny on your M90 and trust me u will love it, But at the same time u will love the 5350 cause u will own 2 of the bad ass 1 peace boxes out there with both using 8 inch drivers.

For years, I felt the same way - mostly 'cause I hate the color. The color makes the M90 one of the dullest looking boxes ever made!
I finally bought into the hype and bought one not expecting much and hoping to shoot down every overblown
good comment I've heard about this box... BELIEVE THE HYPE!!!
Can't kick out bass like a Lasonic TRC-931, but there's not a single box out there that can do EVERYTHING great.
