M90 ARRIVED!!!

First off congrats.
You say the vu meters are pegging out.
Is that with every source or just line in from iPod?
If it is just on the line in that leads me to my next question. Is the phono / line switch stuck in the phono
Position?
If you answer yes then that's the problem.
Best of luck on a great find.
We will get her 100% with some help on here
The line/ phono switch is a typical problem with this model
And can be remedied with switch cleaner and lubricant.
Or just have the switch replaced

I've only heard the FM radio as the line-in switch IS stuck on phono. I took the back off, then got scared and put it back on. I'll have to look for the boomboxery cleaning switches for dummies thread!!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!! I have a decent soldering gun, so once school is out for the summer I'll have to get cracking.

hit the line-phono switch with some contact cleaner ( any brand ) from the outside ---
then report back here :-)

I actually sprayed some of that gold stuff in there... the switch is just really stuck. I also noticed the sound crackled a bit when I wiggled the fm selector.

Nice! I was watching this one(and a few other's on e-bay) When you get her running right you will enjoy It greatly! They are great Boombox's! Congrat's.

I thought about how contact cleaner stuff works (I actually just thought about how if you stick food in the crock pot, then wait it's done later) and figured that after it sat a while, the switch might just work. Well, I got home, and the SWITCH NOW WORKS!!! Bad news is no sound comes out of the box when it's switched to line in and I have it all hooked up. Good news is that when I push on the button just a tad, sound barely comes out. I think a wire is a bit loose. I hope that's all...

Anyway, I'm glad the switch moves. Can't wait to hear it when I have no broadcast interference. I'm really interested to hear my

CEE LO GREEN CD in that

Move the switch a few times and apply a little more contact spray ;-) .
That did the trick on all my big Sharps :yes:

Congrats Holly! Hope you get it all squared away soon. My C100 is still in disarray so I know what its like to have an awesome boomer not fully working.

Good contact spray (i.e. deoxit) is miracle stuff. Works right before your eyes!
Congrats btw Holly. I remember seeing this listing before it had ended...i mean how many M90's lived on Hawaii?

BTW, regarding the line-in/Phono switch on the M90.....

Every boombox has it's idiosyncrasies and quirks. The M90 Line-in/Phono switch on the back is notorious for seizing and oxidizing. Working deoxit in there might bring it back to where line-in works again, but in my opinion, it's a temporary repair at best and is minimally effective to relieve the seizing resulting in excessive pressure to slide the switch back/forth. Too much pressure could cause the switch to break, or the solder connections to fracture.

In my experience, the best way to restore that switch is to remove it from the circuit board, disassemble it, mechanically polish the contacts, then reassemble with a tad of silicone grease and then it works like new again. But that involves quite a bit of work and disassembly. Or you can just try to clean it with deoxit as best you can until it works in the line-in position, then leave it there. Just be careful about exerting too much pressure while sliding. When it is cleaned and lubricated properly, it slides with minimal effort. When it's seizing, it feels like the lever is bending and cocked as you slide it.

I'm restoring mine this fall-needs some de-oxit on bands and I have some
very nice grills and eject knob from Bill!( mine has a few scratches on
my eject knob.
Yes if this is like the M-70 and M-60 this won't be to hard to dismantle!
Usually the blue screws around the outsides of the various circuit boards
are the ones holding everything in.
All of resto guys can help you out,I'm sure of it!
