Hey guys

I have a Suzuki Jimny (Open Top 4X4), that I use for my dogs taxi and get out of the house in typical English winter weather.

Its cold, bumpy, a bit noisy and has a rubbish car stereo that I don't want to spend any money on, but would like some tunes from time to time.

So question is.

What is the best loud, but cheap, but good quality boomer I can shove in the back, that if worse came to the worse will withstand a bit of cold, wet, muddy weather, a couple of mad collies, and looks rubbish enough that people wont be compelled to steal it.

My thoughts are for a Hitachi Black one piece box. Like a TRK - 3D30E, something like that.

Amy suggestions. ?

While the CR100 is quite a looker, those Philips don't look very intriguing but put out some good sound. They can also sell for not too much. However, I wouldn't pay more than 50$ for one in nice condition. There are several AKAs of the CR100 and of the D8614. Some AKAs of the D8614 look a little fancier and thus might sell fo more.

Or get a beat down JVC RV-B55. If you're not after a classic, this might be the right thing for you. They are well built and seriously strong. And they sell for very little money if not complete (no original remote or strap) / not in collection-worthy condition.

Well, my names not Amy, but for weather resistance, may I suggest you also look into worksite boomboxes , and also
Jeep boomboxes such as this one:
ebay item 171270099358

For theft deterent, take an old cassette tape, pull out some of the tape until you have a big mess, then shove the tape back in the cassette deck with the mess of tape sticking out.

Nice advise on the 'theft deterrent'! :-) I've got a few boxes that do that tape trick automatically when you hit 'play'.

My suggestion for a cheap but physically strong & strong sounding box would be the Hitachi TRK-9140/TRK-9150. - they look plain, but are probably the most over engineered box out there.

James.... :-)
