Wow I've been away a lot lately. You finally got one!!!!

I'm a little surprised, I know you were originally holding out for a nice 1st Gen. I'm glad you at least got the metal handled 2nd gen.

Looks a little rough but definitely no problem for you Chris. I know you like your 935 the most of the blacks, I'm curious to see how you like this when it's done. Congrats bro, about time. Haha.

Hey Floyd, Save that back bro, I saw Dr DER in Las Vegas and he brought me the springs and the handle clip.
How are you feeling BTW?

I have the deck decal and some other shiat laying around for this box. Maybe even an entire lower deck
And thanks to Mr HemiG, looks like much of what I need to actually pull this off will be here soon.
For the heck of it, I started cleaning and polishing, just to see what I might be dealing with. The closer I looked, the more I realized, there are no massive scratches or cracks anywhere on this box. I started using a wax product and the dirt just wiped away and the surface came back to life.

Not all the chrome will polish out totally, but since I have new speaker rings (from Dr DER), I think the tweeter bezels will clean up enough to give it a nice "5 foot shine" (looks good from 5 feet away).
I polished the right side of the radio.

Here is the left, with nothing done. It's hard to tell from these pictures, but it's an impressive difference.

I guess it's time to move this thread over to the "Restoration" section! :w00t:

Looking forward to seeing how this one looks when it's completed. The 2nd generation 931's are my all-time favorite blaster, and I totally agree with you about them being the "Camaro" of boomboxes. The right side looks great after the cleaning, can I ask what product you used on it?

The stuff I used is called Wizards Shine Master. This radios case is in very good condition and this polish fills in the tiny scratches. It almost looks wet and is super smooth to the touch. I might have to polish all my black Lasonic's with it!

Thanks for the info. I use Wizards Mist-n-Shine on my motorcycle and it does a great job, so I'm definitely going to pick up some Shine Master and try it out on my Lasonics. Our local O'Reilly auto store carries a full line of Wizard waxes and cleaners.

My brother DarkSideWill used to work for American Bagger Motorcycle Magazine and he got this along with some Mist-n-Shine samples from a motorcycle show he was covering. Stuff is amazing. I use the Mist and Shine on my bike as well. I'll let you know how it works on the full box case.

Dude that box looks friggin' sweet after that shine up! With your skills you'll have her up and shredding no time. Might I suggest the song "American Horse" by The Cult as your first hard rock/metal tune on this badboy.🎸🎸🎸🎸

Thanks brother, I'm going to try to work on this next week, or at least open it up, she what is rattling around and start the documentation and tear down.

I have watched many threads on this box over the years and reading what people have posted. It sounds like it's allot like the TRC-920 in terms of how it is layered and soldered together which makes it a complete and utter nightmare to take apart. So, I am dreading that. But I will power through. I need to search the forum for those threads and read up again. The problem is, so many of these are different. Mine might not have been covered! We will see.

As for cranking up The Cult on the first test, sounds like a great track!

Just don't forget about the nuts that are behind the stickers with the function switches . if you don't remove those nuts you can't pull the insides out

Super information right there.

So the knobs all come off the front and the stickers have to be pulled off to remove the guts?

Yes. You have to do it on both sides the side with the function swhitches and the side with the volume knob.
