Line in Added to JVC PC-X 1000

I figured out the way to add a line in to the JVC
I soldered wires to the cd input on the board L G R
& then went to radio snack & bought a 1/8 stereo jack
installed it and it sounds great

you just have to put it on cd to get the sound from the mp3 or other source

So you switch it to CD without any disks in the changer to get it to play MP3?

yes you dont want to play cd's while using a line in source
but i have left them in the tray & it seems to be fine
i wanted to find a tape in on the board but i did not see one & did not want to pull any boards out to get to it
also i know some people use the tuner input but the tuner board was on the other side & i did not want to mess with it

This mod, when done in this manner wouldn't have worked anyhow if you used the tuner. The Mod I did on the tuenr circuit switched out the source (tuner) when the 1/8" plug was inserted. This adds just a slight amount of complexity but ensures that the audio sources never gets connected together accidentally. Unless..... or did you install it so that the source gets switched out to prevent accidental mixing of the internal and external audio connections?

i was thinking of doing it that way where the source would be disabled in this case the cd player. but there was a ribbon cable on the other side where the R G L connections were. & i was afraid to move it. because there fragile.
you just have to remember not to play a cd while using aux connection.

i tried it once while playing a mp3 player & the sound of the cd was very low.

i guess its kind of like putting a y adaptor on a home stereo & hooking up 2 cd players to one aux jack if you play both at the same time one will be louder than the other

i dont know why JVC did not add a aux jack to this unit i guess at the time they did not think you would need anything else
to hook up to it. but it does have a phono jack. maybe a video jack would have been nice to hook a tv or vcr to it

im glad i got it working & did not fry anything. i did this same mod on a sanyo cd boombox before with a broken cd player & it worked fine

Nice mod. It's nice how JVC labeled the circuit board for you, certainly makes it easier.

Cool But Superduper is right and you should have routed a cut off for cd to disable when line in is plugged in. Just as precautionary measure

do you think it will be ok as long as you dont play a cd?
seems to be working fine so far
disabling the cd player will mean it needs to have a switch or needs to have a jack that cuts off the cd when line in is used
and i would have to mess with that ribbon cable

If you cut power to CD player it should be fine. You can either use separate switch or like Superduper said run cut off through the jack. Shouldn't be too difficult but I would do it so you don't face problems down road

Upgrading to a switched jack is the way to go. Since you already have your R, L, and G running to the amp, you're halfway there.
Great mod. Adds functionality to any box.
