Won this little Minisette 12 mono-box on eBay - $21.12 with shipping. Missing battery lid and the tape door looks like its not securely attached and its apparently not powering up. Something to keep me busy, I guess...

Here's an October '84 Radio Shack advert with one of these on offer for $49.95...

...about $110.31 in today's money. They originally wanted $79.95 for the same unit so it must've on its way out of Radio Shack's lineup...

Nice. Will that be a JVC RC-S1 AKA? Like this one here:

Hard to say. It was my impression the Sanyo OEM'd for Radio Shack - at least they did in the early/mid '80s. I have a Minisette 14 that's a direct clone of a Sanyo recorder.

Both Matsushita companies then, and there's also a Ferguson/Marconiphone/Ultra (Thorn) AKA which supports the Matsushita connection as the Fergies that weren't JVC clones were National Panasonic ones manufactured in Panasonic's Slough plant, in the buildings where Citroen built cars back in the '50s and '60s.

* UPDATE * - with photographie!

In the end the wee beastie proved to be unsalvageable due to electronic failure - namely I broke the main PCB trying to disassemble the poor thing. Ended up buying a second unit - which came in its original box...

Even had its packing foam!

With handle and antennae intact...

Only thing broken was the tape counter button - it had shattered internally. A spare was available from the first unit.

Overall...

Apart from rebuilding the tape counter mecha, the only other work needed was adjusting the motor trimpot for proper speed. Now tapes play nicely on this fine addition to the Chateaux Ghetteaux...

I had one of these as a kid, it was my little goto boombox when I went swimming in the local waterhole when I didn't want to take my big Sharp boombox out in the wild.
