The 5150 and 5250 are exactly the same size, and the back case looks like it could be a direct swap but in reality, since the back case is also the chassis, some of the screw towers and pillar blocks will not line up so in other words, not direct swap. Regardless of similarity, they really sound quite different. The 5250 is much more balanced in the sound dept since it uses cone tweets instead of piezos. Perhaps when new (and the piezos were still functioning), the 5150 would've sounded better and crisper. But by now, all the 5150's (and most other piezo tweetered boxes) have non-functioning tweets. But while cone tweeters actually affects the sound balance due to the added load and impedance impact to the speaker circuit from the cone tweets, piezos don't really affect the woof tonal curve much -- check it, they don't even use filter caps. However, if you were to swap out the piezos for true cone tweets, you will probably find that not only does clarity and detail improve immensely, the bass will improve too. I know it does not make sense that bass would improve by adding tweets since the woof signal is unfiltered. But consider that the tweets draw a parallel load only on the high frequency signals and leaves the low frequency signals alone for the woof to reproduce. That's what I'm thinking. In any event, all I can say is that when I added tweets to my 5150, in addition to the expected treble improvement, the bass became much deeper and warmer too. Also sounded a little like the Aiwa DSL type of bass. Just my observation on my modded 5150.
