Lasonic i931 power issues

This is my first post on this forum and I hope I'm posting on the right forum, since the Lasonic i931 is a newer boombox. I really have no where else to turn.

I've owned my Lasonic for a couple years now. I use it for small partys and occasionaly karaoke because im able to use the mic and auxilary in simultaneously. The mic fx are nice too.

Well recently it started freezing on me. It would lock up after a couple hours of being on with no way to power it off but unplugging it. I was living with that issue for a couple days then all of a sudden it stopped powering on. I couldn't even get a reading on the LCD. So I shelved it for some time with a couple attempts at plugging it in with no success. A couple months passed and I plugged it in and boom it started working. I thought it had to do with me opening the case and fiddling with the power button. I did housework for a couple hours listening to the radio before attempting to turn it off and it was frozen again. The LCD was lit up, music was playing but I couldn't get the stations to change or any buttons to respond for that matter. So I unplugged it and now it again won’t power up. I emailed Lasonic about it a while back with no reply.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds to me like the microcontroller is failing. Don't have one so can't say for sure but most modern boards use SMT boards. That's not likely going to be consumer serviceable. The tools and skills necessary to service surface mount components is beyond the average joe.

Thanks for all the info yeah, I'll give the batteries a try and keep you all posted. I have to go buy 10 D batteries for this bad boy. haha

Even awesome Joe sometimes struggles with SMT.

Yep, put new batteries in and nothing happens. i flipped the switch a bunch of times on the back to go from AC to DC too. Hmm looks like its gonna be an expensive decorative piece now.

Microcontroller huh? I'll do some research.
