I've started on restoring my new 920 (see other thread) and I need to get the function switch out. It's attached to the main board which is tethered by plenty of wires...anyone got any helpful tips on the easiest way to do this? Thanks!

I'd have to look at mine, or my pictures, I can't remember how I did it... I'm not so sure I ever got them all the way out, I think I took the back and front panels off the box, and loosened the boards enough to flip them over...
It's tethered in a lot of places and I need to flip it to get the function switch out...I was hoping there's an easyish way to do it without too much trouble!

I dont know why I feel like that looks different than mine. I'll look at mine tonight when I get home, or see if I have and step by step pics on my old phone. Looks like you still have the front cover on? I think you need that off, or at least the knobs, so you can loosen the board.

Well, I looked at my pictures and at my box. Now I remember.... I only loosened and flipped the tuner board, I never actually had the amp board out. I thought I had them both flipped but now I remember I did what I had to with the amp board pretty much in place. I think I loosened it, but never got it out enough to flip that one. Just the tuner board, which I remember having to be careful with the dial wheel/string setup in the front side. 
Those wires really route through every which way. It sucks. Much better built than my 931, but the same problem with most every harness having soldered connections. Only a few real connectors.

the 920 is pretty common in the States so I'm surprised there's not more (any lol) people who've had the main board out? Or am I being dumb and it's dead easy lol? Oh well, I'll give it a go some time in the next few days and let you know what happens
Sorry but I've never had a Lasonic apart before.
It looks like you need to pull out that small board at the bottom with the black switch and then desolder a few wires at the bottom of the main board. And then tilt the board up and to the right leaving the main bunch of wires plus the tuner wires on top in-tact. The inputs panel should come out with the main board.
You just need to get the board upright in order to desolder the function switch.
It looks weird having the top side of the main circuit board visible with the back off. I'm used to de-soldering from the back of the board and then dismantling the board from the outer case to gain access to pull the switch body from the board.
Do the switches/pots attach directly to this board?
Once you get started I think you'll be ok.

nobody talks about it because nobody wants to mess with it lol. i would think just buying some connectors and installing them inline with the wires so that you can just unplug all that crap would be a start. these are a pain in the ass the work on you can buy the connectors on ebay and you put the ends on the wires and insert into the plug so it looks factory.Northerner said:the 920 is pretty common in the States so I'm surprised there's not more (any lol) people who've had the main board out? Your best bet is to take tons of pictures, unsolder and tag every wire, one at a time and only remove what you need to to get it out.

BTW, not all that needs to be unsoldered. The wires that go to the knobs, don't need to be unsoldered. You can slide the whole knob assembly through the opening.
