Yeah, you can etch anything -- even eyeballs (lasik, lol). You just need to adjust the laser strength to the proper level for the material being lasered.

Products like that have been available for years for home stereos. Problem is the price, which might make it cost prohibitive. The seller (eBay userID suggests maybe they do this for a living) stamps out a run of them at the same time. I suspect they don't do 1 at a time as price will be higher since setup time for the jigs are no doubt substantial. Speaking of... locating a flat piece of aluminum plate onto a jig/template is far easier than a non-flat boombox. This is important for the laser to have a reference position.

In any event, I think the implications for this technology with regards to boomboxes is still impractical unless reproduction plates are considered.

You will never know until you ask....SO...

I sent this message to the seller on eBay

"This thread just popped up on a boombox website I follow: https://boomboxery.com/forum/index.php/topic/22892-laser-etching/#entry281575

We are interested in your services, but have obvious questions.

#1, do you do custom work?
#2, do you do one off work?

We, in the vintage 1980's boombox community are always sourcing options to restore our radio's.

Thanks for your time"

You might have to harass him to get a response. A lot of those home-audio enthusiasts are rather snobbish individuals who dismiss the idea of working on boomboxes, because they think they're throwaway items that nobody would be willing to spend decent money on.
