Hey there -

So I just got a JVC RC-M70 and noticed the right speaker and tweeter play at a much lower volume than the left. I was using the RCA ins and tested out different cords and ends, but had the same result each time :-/

I'm new to the Boombox community and despite having a small sense of handy work from opening up computers for repairs and parts swapping, I dont know how to address this issue. Does anyone know if this is easily fixable / have an idea what the problem might be?

The speakers do work, as I have tested them solo with the sliders, but they are easily a quarter the volume or lower!

Any help would be awesome! Thanks!

Welcome aboard, howiepuke. :-)

JVC sliders on the M70 are notorious for developing problems after so many years. Basically, the electrical contacts can break, corrode, or disappear. That would be the worst-case scenario.

Hopefully, it will just be a dirty slider. Go find some DeOxit or other electrical contact cleaner and try spraying the offending slider and work it really good. If the channel comes to life, then it was just dirty. You will have to remove the slider cover or maybe open the M70 to really get the cleaner into the slider mechanism.

Thanks Fatdog! I'll pick up a can today and give it a go tonight. Fingers crossed... I also need to replace the antennas - one was completely missing and the other is just the base of the swivel. I was trying to search online for parts, but the best results im seeing is just getting some from radio shack. Do you know anywhere I could get more specific parts to a JVC?

Sometimes parts for JVC M70s will pop on here. Very rarely does an antenna come up for sale though. Your best bet for now would be to go to radio shack and get something close.

The other parts (sliders, buttons, cases, speakers, etc) will come up for sale. PM 71spud because he is selling some M70 parts. There are a few people in line for parts from him, so be patient ;-) .

Have any pictures of your M70?

Wecome aboard :-D JVC M70 is an awesome starting box. If after you clean the volume and other pots and switches you still have problems there is a gentleman who rebuilds the whole board and it sounds superb  I got mine from him :-D good luck with antennas, it literally took me over a year to get just one

Hello Howiepuke,

Again, welcome to Boomboxery. FWIW, you may come across a JVC RC-656LB/JW that sometimes can be found for a few $, £ or Euros. Although a nice mid sized boomer in itself, you may want to take the antennae off it to put on the RC-M70. A worthwhile sacrifice? You be the judge. :-) :-) :-)

Good luck in your quest.

Cheers
