my fault --for never using this beautiful shelf queen :dunce:

but- last nite --to celebrate the world box day -]
i whipped it out to give it some 'excersize '

it had been 100% working perfectly
-
but --after several months of sitting there -
now this happens :'-( :annoyed:

when i move the treble slider to any position but the bottom ( zero )
the left speaker CUTS OUT --totally ????????

hope that means = de-oxit
or --is it a new slider or a new slider board ??

thanks :-)

this happens on ocassion with my sony fh 7 -- its just a matter of some good ol contact cleaning. i just forget to spray mine whenever it happens.

best would be to clean all sliders ira -- my fh 7 changes every week..sometimes it's the eq-sliders the other time its a button on the tapedeck.

I agree with Felix. I bet the salty, sea air affects the contacts more than you think. DeOxit!!

Absolutely! The salty air at the seashore ruins everything..for a few years ago i wanted to buy a Porsche 911 turbo from a guy who lived near the shore..i have never seen a 911(that is from the fabric fully rust-protected with a special zink-coating) that was so rotten...so i let it pass..

Should I start making custom size boombox covers to keep this from happening to our precious blasters when not in use? I think I would love to have a cover for all my boomboxes :hmmm: . It would keep the dust off them and protect from scratches and dings when transporting too  .

an easy suggestion to avoid salt air -- pack your boxes and settle somewhere far away from the sea

Hey, THANKS FOR THAT ADVICE! My husband, family, and I will be moving to CA eventually and this is the second, yet even more important, confirmation of this.

we have an air conditioned storage unit --way inland -
14 miles round trip from the shore -- :surf:

so -those boxes are 'safe' --- but,
what what a PITA !!! --imagine driving 1/2 hour RT --just to 'visit' your boxes :dunce:

From what someone said on a CA forum, if I am just six blocks inland that will make a HUGE difference regarding car corrosion. You're saying I have to get further away than THAT?

:'-( :'-( :'-(

I hope it just needs deoxit but it might also be..........

The feeler has fallen off, and sits near the bottom. Moving the control all the way down shorts the feeler to restore audio. :hmmm:

Like I said, hope that isn't the case, but knowing these stupid JVC sliders, I might be wrong but I might be right.

holly --6 blocks does make a huge difference -

are in MUCH better shape than ours --

Ira, when someone has owned as many boombox as you or I have, you sorta get the feel for what a dirty deoxit-loving control feels like, and I presume this one feels like there's something else going on besides oxidized contacts. Agree?

sometimes just leaving the boxes powered up for a day or so loosens up some of the rigor Mortis . electricity is good for electronic's every now and again  .
