I just picked up this really nice JVC-9475. it came with the instruction book. The guy said he got it from an estate sale but has no idea about it. He had no cassette to test it, but he said when he pushed play the reel spun . so I just went to check it out. The cassette deck actually worked. But it doesn’t fast forward or rewind when you have a tape inside. But does when you have a tape out of it. I paid $80 bucks for it. took it home and cleaned it up. It looks almost brand new only missing the tip of one antenna. I’m guessing the fast-forward and rewind function has a different belt than the playback function. It sounds really good for a small boombox. I’ll be keeping this one for sure you almost never find boom boxes like this out in the “wild“ regarding rewind and fast forward. I suppose it’s probably a belt that needs to be replaced. I’m guessing it has two belts, one for fast forward and rewind the other one for playback. Anyone ever worked on replacing the belts on this deck/boombox is it difficult? Some of them are really impossible or nearly impossible to work on because of all the disassembly required.

Nice box never opened one of these but generally these 70's jobs have bridging wires going all over the place so difficulty high. You may be better off just enjoying a working radio.

Thank you those bridging wires sound difficult and frustrating. It’s starting to rewind and fast-forward now and the counter is working. Maybe it just needed to be played after sitting around not being used at all. I guess I’ll use the tape deck until it quits if I can find someone skilled enough to put a new belt so I’ll definitely do it. Otherwise I can enjoy it as a radio. It has a line in so I can plug in a CD player also or my iPhone or iPad.
