Are people really retarded these days with their shipping of boomboxes?

WTF people.

Yesterday I got my Crown 950 from a guy only 2 hours away. Wouldn't let me pick it up, no prob only $15 to ship it. Shows up with 2 layers of small bubble wrap in a box WAY too big for it with no more packing material. Cassette keys are tweeked, cassette door trim fell off, and something is BROKEN off inside the case! WTF AGAIN!???? Damn, no prob - it is still fully working but now I have ANOTHER project to fix...

Now today I got my Helix 4630 from another person only 2 hours away that wouldn't let me pick it up. No prob, only $12 to ship it. Shows up with that expanding foam protecting it on the front/back and top/bottom...... side to side NO PROTECTION and SHE LEFT THE CORD PLUGGED INTO THE SIDE AND IT SMASHED THE POWER CORD BOARD INTO THE ****ING BOOMBOX! Doesn't even turn on. Battery door f'n taped on because the bottom pegs are busted off and both the f'n antennas are damaged. ALL THINGS THE SELLER NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT!

god damn it I am pissed right now I can't even think straight

Blu I feel your pain, I passed on some buys that were just 30 minutes away in the same town because the guy wouldn't allow local pickup. I've found that local people that don't allow local pickup are not very trustworthy, maybe my experience is the exception but it is what I've seen.

I hope you at least get satisfaction in the way of refunds of some sort, no matter what though you aren't going to get what you paid for.

:agree: I have a hard time trusting some one who will not allow local pickups. I understand people not wanting you to come to their homes, but pick a local spot and get on with it........just would make things so much easier.

That sucks I feel for yah Blu

Both sellers are offered partial refunds, which I will take for damn sure. I'll update here when I get more info.

The Helix was going to be fixed with my Candle, but has soooo many issues too so not sure what will come of it. The crown I am sooooo happy it actually works though. If you are looking at the bright side of things :-/

Your experience is not unusual Joe. Probably doesn't make it any easier to swallow but just wanted you to know you have plenty of company.

I know we hear about these things all the time here and even with every precaution we can give these people, I would have thought that BOTH would have got here with no damage because they didn't travel far.

Thanks for the support.

i understand the pain -- that hurts everytime it happens.

i had a chat with a girlfriend of mine about 2 years ago - she said her dad had an old ugly useless radio in his basement - she probably would've shipped it just the way your 2 boxes where sent, cuz she did not know what these things mean to us -- after she showed me a pic i was surprised - she was talkin about a 777Z. im still on a long & hard way to purchase it from her dad, but that's another story :-D

but nethertheless a bit thinking or some attitude should be with everyone packing up a package - either if its a boombox or a rock/stone (ppl collect this stuff!) - i simply can't imagine whats going on in the heads of these ppl.

hope you get the 2 boxes sorted fuz!

hey joe --
in case either or both of these 2 turkey sellers --
are 'regular' box dealers on ebay -
then put up their names in our feedback -
so we all know to avoid them -
thanks

Couple years ago I got a Crown 980 from a guy in Germany who SHOULD have the experience to package well......He sells radios every single week.......But this box shows up with its metal strap loops smashed into the box, because they hit something. As I recall, he used only one layer of bubble wrap and then poured a bunch of styrofoam peanuts over it. Weaksauce.

Yeah Joe, unfortunately, this has happened to most of us. :-/ Sometimes, I think, the sellers don't know any better. Other times, I think, they just don't care. I think the saddest thing about it is the boomboxes were fine when the pictures were taken and they'll never be like that again. All because of one person's stupidity. I mean, yeah we can try our best to fix them but that's not the point. :sadno: And the fact that these sellers weren't located far from you makes it suck even more because it isn't like there was hella mileage involved to toss the stuff around. :annoyed:

Damn. :-/

Gotta agree with Norm here....

And it is "strange" that a person would rather go through all the pain of shipping it instead of just handing it over. I bought a notebook in 2004 and drove to Columbus, GA to get it. The guy had no issues with it as it saved him from packing and shipping...2.5hrs from my house.

I personally don't like meeting with buyers, because they often don't even show up, and even if they do, they often try to haggle you down or claim that it isn't in the condition they expected. I don't have time for that noise.

It has to do with eBay and their quirky policies. eBay explicitly denies seller protection for items picked up since there is no record of product transfer. That does not mean there will be no recourse. Presumably, anybody picking up sold articles will be local, and thus, local prosecution is far easier on such sales in the event of buyer fraud. But the seller does need to take certain precautions.

What in the "F" is wrong here....I swear in Japan...the postal service does not TRASH the mail! I have had more than a few packages show up in Japan and they look brand new! It must be some kind of cultural "I don't Care" thing that lets this happen. As it has been said many times, here in the US, everything shows up looking like it's gone through a wood chipper! Thank god, some of the stuff actually shows up OK thanks to someone going WAY out of their way to over pack it....Very frustrating.

It does add to the "Ulcer / Excitement" of collecting.

Blu....really sorry to hear that two in a row got creamed! Hopefully you are getting all your bad luck out of the way in one whack!

Damn Joe you was wanting one 950 so bad  . Sorry to hear that.
I agree that if the seller is not wanting to meet locally something is wrong with the goods :nonono: .
