Restored this Pioneer for Member Kieth. It's second one I've restored for him as first was SK21. Unit was very dirty and had broken grill with cloth torn and speaker had huge hole from it.

I fully cleaned and dusted inside and out. Replaced belts and pinch roller. Cleaned and demagnetized tape head. Cleaned idler tires and pulleys. Cleaned all switches and pots. Plus I adjusted motor speed and azimuth !!

I also repaired cracked grill piece and used brown lady's panty hose for new grill cloth cover. I glued paper on inside of speaker covering hole and put glue on front to add extra strength.

All in all I think it turned out great and sounds excellent. I have some pics and video :-)

That must have been an interesting trip to the ladies' hosiery counter.....

"Honestly Ma'am, they're for repairing the speaker frets on a classic piece of portable audio equipment!"

"Yes Sir, of course they are..." ;-)

Nice work! Doesn't the SK-71 have the trim bars across the grill though? :-D

This one didn't. The cloth was glued in crevices but I couldn't do that so I left it. Although I was trying to think of something to use but gave up :-)

Great job Bill! I still need to restore my 71 I just
need a cassette door and a memory switch cap
and a power switch. My switch is still there but the
top part of the switch is busted off.
Great job on the panty hose idea!!:)
Mine all works but still needs a little more
cleaning and adjusting on the cassette.Works
great just a little sticky sometimes getting to
go into play.New belts should take cate of that.

They're not to bad at dismantling once you get
the trick of opening up the psarchophoghous!;lol)
The tipping of the one side and then getting it up and
open.
BRE-only the 95 has the metal trim on speakers.
I know,I have them all except 900.:)

I would have bought the panty hose myself just to see the expression on the cashier's face.
As usual, nice work Bill.
