I was thinking that the speaker grilles reminded me of a small Sharp I used to have, can't find a picture of one like that but it was similar with the exception of its cassette door, which followed through with the horizontal line theme. And there was only the one of it.
Ah! Found one:

It's definitely got very similar styling...I'd guess Schneider copied Sharp

I reckon they both copied General Motors:

I LOVE THAT BOX!!!

Colors and style are a perfect representation of the 80s!

Or the 40s, if you compare with what Detroit was building at the time (above). :-)

Wow!! Top score, Northerner!! And gorgeous in white too, Craig!

I missed one of these on yahoo.jp a while back, it's definitely my holy grail of minis.

I have the triple deck National mini though, which is nice.

Rock On.

Yeah, that's a show stopper right there!

I have a 3 deck box and when you think about it, in the 80's, before MP3 players that can give you endless music play back, having three 120 minute long play cassettes was a big deal, that's 6 HOURS of uninterrupted music!

I used to spend hours at night during the week mixing tapes for the weekend. Every time my friends and I got together, they'd expected me to have my radio and mix tapes ready for the party. But only having a single deck and allot of the time only 90 minute cassettes, they would bitch me out if we ran out of music. I can't blame them. I got them used to always having the hottest tracks going and I took on the responsibility to provide them with music....so a triple decker would have been perfect!

It is pretty cool that with C90's you can have 135 minutes of music without having to press a button

I'm pleased that so many others seem to like this weird box too...I snapped it up because it was funky and I've got to say looks fab filling a narrow shelf above my GF9000...the contrast between the huge classic looking 9000 and this freaky long thing is awesome
