It was 500 MPH in the open ocean, tsunamis have a small height in the open ocean - about 12 inches, so they travel fast. But they can be several miles long - and when they get closer to a coastline - the waves tend to get slower and much bigger - 10 meters tall in this case.

Hey Guys, Family is safe!

Sad times for the Japanese people. The death toll for this will be MASSIVE. To see things like this, no matter where they are, South America, Haiti, Japan, Los Angeles.....It's horrible to live through and is horrible to watch.

I was in the Northridge Earth quake back in 1993 and I know first hand how scary these can be. But we didn't have tsunami's or reactor melt downs!

I can only hope for the best for the Japanese people

Impressive video!

It goes to show that no matter how much man thinks that he can master everything, the Earth will do whatever the hell the Earth wants to do!

Ultimately, the Earth is the one in charge! :-/

Char that CNN video is scary never have I seen the ground moving like that!

Just shows how insignificant we are, the earth can completely destroy man if it wanted too.

To make matters worst now a volcano has begun to show some signs of a possible eruption.
