Issues replacing capstan rubber sleeve

Hi all,
I replaced the belts, capstan rubber sleeve and idler tyre on my GF9494. I purchased the replacement off eBay from Rorichel_1. Everything seems to have gone well except for the capstan sleeve. There is too much resistance and the mechanism isn't moving smoothly. I can't get it to play tapes. It's also super hard to get the capstan off again now!
Is this a common issue when replacing them?
Thanks

I've done three Sharps now, The sleeves being sold in kits in my opinion are too long. There is at least one you tube video where they experience/show this issue (think it was on a 9191). I trimmed my last one to be about the size of the aperture and make sure it sits nicely in that space when the capstan in re-inserted. I'm no expert, but that was my experience.

The resistance is because of the length of the sleeve or the diameter?
If it is the length, just trim it a little.
That's a good point. I assumed the diameter was fine. Having another play around with it I think it's the length. The pressure isn't consistent on the whole turn which it should be if the diameter was the problem. Thanks

Thanks. I'll remove it and shorten the sleeve and see if that does the trick. I've tried removing the capstan and it is super tough. Do you have any tricks / suggestions as to how this can be made easier??

Like others have said, the length of that tubing should be no more than the size of the window, otherwise it could rub and interfere. If it's on tight, unfortunately, you might have to "slit" it and peel it off, and try again with a new piece. Hobby stores that sells RC goods usually sell the tubing which can be used for that purpose. At least many of us have used those for this purpose with good results.

Thanks very much, I appreciate the advice. Will slice it off and try again
