my friend wants me to buy his near mint boomer for 400. It's a 1980's Prosonic PQR 9580. I've seen it in person and it's in near mint condition with only a few minor scratches on the bottom. So help me out here, is this boomer worth $400???

See I don't know what brands are more valuable than others, thats why i ask the experts.

i would have to see the box to know for sure ,it just seems like a high price to me . i have one and its not something i would pay over 200 bucks for no matter how nice it was .

You would have to post a pic, because it's not even showing up in a google search.

these are not that rare ,i mean they don't grow on trees but you won't have a hard time finding one .

bottom line don't take my word for it .
it's your money so do what you feel like doing that's the best option :-D .

Oh, those? So then you meant 9850, not 9580.
I see those about once a month on Ebay.
There's also an AKA made by Rising, I think.
They usually go anywhere between $100 and $200.

I personally wouldn't pay $400.00 for that model. Even if it were mint in the box.
My two cents
I would rather get a decent JVC or some other quality brand if I had that kind of money to spend.

There's a guy in NY Craigslist trying to sell the exact same one for $400. It's been for sale for at least 6 months. I agree with the guys on this site. $150-200 tops IMO. Lopez had or still has it and its ok. Not a bad radio but not worth what he wants for it. There are better radios for that kind of coin on eBay or from fellow members here. Good luck on your choice.

If you feel like you can do it, just spend the money, then close your eyes and hope nothing bad happens, then open them and wow! You have a cool boombox! You can hold onto it for years and get your money back if you still feel the need.

Much easier to spend and recoup $400 than $3000 which is what some people have spent on M90's ;-)

Well I'll tell you mine is not minty and I paid no where near $400. All I'm saying is that a minty one or NIB could be worth that to someone. But that it's easier to make up $400 than if someone paid $3000 for a clean working M90. Heck you could buy a decent car for that much. But like we always say, a box is worth what a buyer and seller agree upon ;-)
