Bill Tracy and I just had a little back and forth on the BBXY facebook page yesterday about ripping off members' photos. It was in response to Max's Bombeat photo. Seems that every photo needs to be watermarked these days, whether digital or hard copy. Damn shame. The seller might want to shop the Bay for a camera of his very own. I have nothing to worry about, cuz I take crappy photos (not on purpose).
:annoyed:
BTW, I'm not crazy about the design.

I've seen Lyle's work ripped off tens of times on ebay over the last few years. Shirts, stickers, phone covers, wall art, anything you can name really.

It's a shame, but it's an unavoidable problem of modern technology. There isn't anything stopping anyone from saving/screencapping/photoshopping an image they don't own for profit.

Rock On.

:agree: Glu,

Even some local promoters in my town (whom I'm friends with) were using one one Lyle's images on a facebook add to promote a club night...

I posted a FB comment giving credit.... "photo by Lyle Owerko - NYC". nobody replied back. LOL!

You know I'm not sure if it's considered stealing the images. I think you need a copy write in order to consider it stealing, at least according to law.. Any pics you post on Internet can be searched and saved. I've seen mine used many times and even with watermark that won't stop them from being used

Bill, if you took the photo and someone else uses it without your express permission it is stealing. You should be paid for your work. In fact it is enshrined in law.

I've had people use my photos, (not of boomboxes) without permission, and when I've asked them to be removed they have complied.

If you take a lot of great photos and want to sell them, try a stock image website.

Why even consider Lyle is being stolen from ? Surely if he cared he would pursue it himself...

Any time you create an original image you automatically own the copyrights, unless you've expressly granted them to someone else. You don't need to register your work anywhere to own the rights. Same with writing and music, as long as it's original work.

But I'm not convinced that the photo used here is one of Lyle's. I don't see they blemishes and shading that make Lyle's pics so distinctive. Hard to tell from these images.
