... or at least a memory that might one day trigger a boombox desire.
I came in to my part-time job today and one of the owners had her four-year-old son with her. He and I are pretty good buds and when he saw me walk in with my Hitachi TRK-8800 I saw his eyes get really big. "Mr. Bobby, what's that?" I told him it's a boombox with a radio and cassette player and gave him a little demonstration. His attention was focused on the boombox intently as I worked the dial knob, volume, tape controls, etc. He was mesmerized.
After I finish the short demo, which I thought would be enough for someone his age, he starts asking questions about each little thing on the Hitachi.
"What's this?" "What does this do?" Oh, man! I was thrilled to pieces! We must have spent 10 minutes going over EVERYTHING on the boombox and when I told him his dad could hook up his iPod to it, aw man, he thought that was the coolest thing in the world.
It was really cool to see admiration and enthusiasm for a boombox through a child's eyes. As he and his mom were leaving, I asked him if he wanted a boombox. He emphatically answered, "Yeah!" I told him I had plenty to choose from and that I would pick one out for him.
The Brotherhood lives on.
