*Correction* FFWD doesn't work but RWD does really fast, and it plays tapes great... I have QUEEN-Greatest Hits playing now and it sounds real clear and loud! When I opened the tape door I gasped :-O not at the Elton John's Greatest Hits tape that came with, but all the fuzziness that was piled up inside.. This unit needs a REAL GOOD CLEANING, can tell its been neglected.. :nonono:

Yes I would clean and rebelt it. As well as cleaning the tire you have marked with red arrow and the two drives the tire rides on. Should be good as new ;-). Congrats, just as Chris, I love my 920 too :-)

After lunch I brought it to work yesterday, even though the tuner is stuck.. Luckily its locked on our local radio station so I had it playing outdoors for about 4 hours.. It's a mix radio station, but those old guys didn't know what to think when "Baby Got Back" started blastin! :breakdance:
Listened to about 5 cassettes on it last night too.. I love this box!
Stevie Ray Vaughan sounds gorgeous through those speakers.. great bass and highs.... :stereo: :pimp:

I want to tear it down and restore it, but then it won't be getting used for however long.... :-/

These are pretty simple to work on as both front and back covers can be removed. The deck on the 918 is a nightmare!!!!!

Yep, these are an easy tear down and clean up!

If the deck is working, just clean her out!

It's a great ROCK BOX.

What is up with the tuner? Is it the string?

Glad the box arrived without damage! Sadly to say... A lot of boxes were lost in the fire I'm sure... I don't know if I'm wrong to think this or not but quite often when I see forest fires or any type of urban devastation I can't help to think of all the boxes and other nice stuff which was lost...

Got er cleaned up inside and out, still have to mess with the tuner string and figure out why it doesn't work on battery power..
I'll tear it apart again when I get new belts..

The tuning string was snagged on the resistor thats on the back of the right tweeter, now there is too much slack in it..
I have to figure out how many times to wrap it, plus I think one of the tiny "guide wheels" that the string pivots on is missing..

I just stripped the black paint off the grilles and polished them a little.. had this idea in my head about getting them chrome plated..

Did you guys ever figure out what the correct belt sizes were to order..?

Getting the grill chromed would be SICK! I thought that last night after seeing your thread again!

If your batteries still aren't working after cleaning the AC/DC switch, check the leads coming off the battery terminals. I have replaced these before in other boxes and the like. That corrosion will spread through a braided wire like the wildfires in CO. The corrosion on my Conion went all the way back to the pin connector, so I had to get creative. Battery leads are usually pretty easy. ...And a good place to hone your soldering skills.
(I hope this isn't too "techy" for this thread.)

It works on batteries, I just didn't flip the switch on the back! :dunce: :dunce:  This is only my 2nd box with a connected power cord, the other one my Sony 3000 (has switch on back too)..
Need to order a pair of antennas, some belts, head demagnetizer, etc to restore this baby soon!
Took a bunch of pics outside today, the "chromed grilles" kinda give it a Renegade/ Terminator look.. :jason:
