I only had one boombox as a kid, on the hunt for it now!

Very very vauge description of what I remember of the box.

Midsize boomer
Possibly Sanyo because of knob style
Had stacked knobs (two knobs, one smaller stacked on a bigger one, same location)
Flip open single cassette between two possibly 6"(ish) speakers
Had SW because I use to use it to record the cordless home phone signals it would pickup
Cassette buttons were located under cassette door
Single antenna
All other buttons/knobs were on the top of the box
I believe it had left/right tweeters in the upper most corners of the box
Someone gave it to me when I was about 8yrs old (1991-1992ish) and it was used then
Box was grayish, no sparkles, maybe silver, and no chrome that I remember
Wasn't metal cassette
Didn't have a song advancing option

Did you try stereo80s? Under sanyo and click on every model number. Might take you a while.

You'll probably end up with more models on your want list.

Thanks for looking anyway. I see it has the dual knob on the top right. I don't remember if my tuner dial was on the side of the box or on top .

I think I had it for about a year before it started eating tapes and then I think I smashed it to pieces with a baseball bat out of boredom .

It was a tan-ish gray box. Not black, brown, or silver. It might have been gray at one time and got tan from the smoking environment it was in .



AND no VU meters .

Much like you I'm trying to remember a mono box I had. It was the first cassette player I ever had. Got it for xmas probably around 1975-76. Every time I see a mono box I'm hoping it will jog my memory. Nothing yet though.

Thanks - maybe some day I will spot it. The only reason I think it is a sanyo is because of the stacked knob style that you see on them but it probably isn't a sanyo .

I was lucky enough to find my first "Stereo" box, but as it turns out the TRC-920 is a fairly common box. So in those regards I got real lucky (and as it turns out had good taste as a kid!)

I don't know if I will ever see my mono box again. I can see it in my mind, but being a mono radio/cassette it my just be gone forever. I sure would like to have it in my collection though!

Patience is a virtue (so I hear).
It took me a while to figure out what the model was that I had as a kid, though I could describe it and see it in my mind. I went through every model Sanyo on stereo80s, and it wasn't there.
I found it by doing a "Sanyo Boombox" search every day on eBay, list by newest first.
If you're Hell bent, you'll find it.

When I first started collecting trying to remember the units I had was more difficult then I thought. The first buy was a Panasonic RX5010 which actually started my collecting and it was the very first boombox I bought at 14. But it was my CEC that was super difficult as there are many AKA's and the CEC hardly comes up on eBay. You will find it someday

That is actually really funny because that box is really close to what I remember, but mine didn't have soft touch cassette keys, didn't have a blue tuner, and it did have some kind of SW band(s).


I'm really thinking it was a sanyo, but havn't seen one anywhere that looks exactly like I remember. Even shizaudio I couldn't find one. Some Hitachi boxes are similar to sanyo, I'll dig through that section again.

^ not quite. It didn't have that big framework around the cassette door, no crash bar by the cassette keys, and the top right knob was a double knob stacked for the L/R volume. Tuner window didn't have the stations printed on the outside with the tuner needle behind it, mine had the clear plexi tuner window where you could see the tuner needle laying over the stations.
