Hi everyone-I just have to say how much I just love my GF-9797!
This is like the perfect size for outside listening & I just love the sound coming out of this unit!
It has plenty of bass if you put it up all the way-I usually leave it at +3.
It really has nice tweeters(dome) and it really has nice highs!
The special thing about this box is it's night light feature!!
It's the only box I know that has a light on all the time when plugged in!
On batteries you have to hit the light button for light.
But when turned on it's a nice green glow and get's brighter when the light is depressed!
The tape player is real nice and has apld to!
I really like the strong tuner on this-all stations clear as a bell!!
With that PLL quartz synthesised tuner it's a killer!
I get 830 WCCO AM Mpls/St.Paul at night & in the morning really good-850 miles away!!
Overall for the size I just love this & at 40watts draw this is no toy!! :-O
I now need to get another.
I bet this thing was expensive new!!
I know the 9696 is bigger & better but this thing is superb quality!!
Have a great weekend everyone-GB. :-) :surf:    :-O :surf: :choco: :breakdance: :stereo: :dj-party:

Sorry Norm but that still cracks me up that they delivered the empty box to you.

Sorry to hear about that Norm!

Pictures of this box I'm referring to are in the collections forum.

The only thing that is a little worn is the front aluminum trim which really isn't that bad unless your close & maybe someday i can get a trim of some off of another but anyhow then next one I buy will be in even better shape.
Just need an antenna but still like I said have about 75% of the original.
Hope you get one again Norm-I really like the advanced features of the day type boombox!!
Have a great weekend-GB. :-)

I have two of these and i like the GF 9797 very much too.
The tuner is super sensitive AND selective. It's extreme how these thing perform with a telescopic antenna.
The tuner is way better than the GF 9595
Some pics of mine

And the GF 9797 HB (bronze version) this version seems to be very rare. They don't turn up often

Hi Eddy-Nice specimans!! I really like the Bronze model!! :-O :surf:
Yes the tuners are so nice!!
Isn't the night light feature cool??
I during long times will leave the plug unplugged because I don't want to wear the lights out to soon!!
It's the only boomer that I know with this night light feature!!
Ira might even like this box & he doesn't like digital tuners!
Have a super weekend-GB. :-)  :surf:

The lights are a very nice feature. These lights will last a few years longer. They already did their job for 25+ years so ....
I unplug every box after listening to them. I don't want something to happen to them when not in use
A power surge can do nasty things to electronics.
The only thing i miss is the clockradio function like on the GF 9595.
I guess Sharp had to cut some corners.

Ira HAS to get himself one of these . Bad reception conditions @ his location :hmmm:

Ira has an antenna solution. Witnessed it myself. His hearing reception is another matter altogether. :-P

Just got mine today

I wonder why they sell for small beans in the UK

Mine is super minty - just needs a wipe over.

Aerial is bent - and the light doens't seem to work.

Apart from that . . .

Great looking box - with pix to follow.

I love it too, I changed out the dead LED's on the two I had. I sold one to a member and had a great transaction with shiping from UK to USA taking 1 day.
The tuner is superb indeed. Overall lovely box.

What model is the GE? Is it really the same (for all intents and purposed) as the Sharp or just similar looking?
