I'm tired of helping ebay get richer at my expense. As a seller you can't make money anymore, fees are near 16% now (if you include paypal and shipping fees) I need to jump ship ASAP. Are there any other auction sites similar to ebay with more reasonable seller fees?

I dont think there is another medium with the worldwide reach of ebay.

Best bet is to just start your action with the minimum you will be happy to sell for, taking fees in to account.
If it sells, good, if the auction goes up even better.
Also list your auction on a zero insertion fee weekend, then if it does not sell you have lost nothing.

But yeah, ebay does suck a bit.

Yeah ebay/paypal is a rich company, that's for sure!

Last significant boombox I sold on ebay went for $600 bid. Subtract the paypal and ebay fees I ended up with just about $500. Makes me sick thinking about it.

I don't use eBay unless I have to. Selling to member is better. I post for sales here, S2G and FB and usually have luck

16%? I calculate it at 12.9%. Standard selling fee is 10% of the final value plus shipping. Paypal selling fee is 2.9%.

I've been selling a lot on eBay recently and it's true they take a chunck, but nowhere else will you get the same exposure for your items which translate to getting a better price.

Wish there was something else, a place that treated the sellers as equals (my opinion is that they keep changing their policies to attract more buyers while shafting the sellers).

That's just it though...eBay knows it has no competition, PayPal was bought out by them, and smaller sites cannot compete. Overseas you have Mercado Libre and Gumtree. In the 'States there really is nothing else.

CQout is another alternative but invariably, listings on there are duplicates of eBay listings by the same vendors so not an alternative so much as a backup facility that affords members the opportunity to use the phrase "can be withdrawn as advertised elsewhere" to their eBay ads. Is there a US version of FridayAd? That's taking off here in the UK just now, as is Preloved.
There are regional alternatives to eBay too, such as Wightbay (for Caulkheads, as residents of England refer to people from the Wight), the Gazette classifieds in Northumberland, Roxburghshire and Berwickshire and of course the local yellow papers such as Ad Trader can all be accessed online.
We're also getting Craigslist here now but that seems to be a facility for sex workers to meet their clients and a quick look at the nearest listings suggests that there's no more to it.

I Totally agree!

Earlier in the year I sold some stuff and in the end, after it was sold and you include what I originally paid for the item, I lost money!

I don;t think it's worth selling big ticket items on eBay. Lots of small stuff with a free listing cost and super low shipping cost seems to be a way to go.

Thankfully my hourly wage is NOTHING!

Oh, tell me about it!!! My GF-777Z went for 1725 & the eBay fees are a whopping 200 clams, not including the PayPal fee which will be another 100 clams.....*PUKE* but the fickle collectors here won't pony up the bucks for this kind of modded box so I have no choice but to ePay it off....

Cheers,
Cpl

If you are selling stuff there is always a cost associated with it.

Auction houses charge 30-40%
If you own a store you have overhead which is more than 15%

Your free options are local classifieds (most of time its a waste) or have a yard sale where you will get beat down by people offering you nothing for your stuff.

I like ebay and paypals buyer protection. I was offered my $ back today, for a moldy box that an ebay seller originally refused to take back. "NO refunds"

In the USA you can try craigslist first. However, our collector market is so limited (thin) that ebay is really the best way to find someone that will pay 500$ plus for a radio. Try a local ad and you will soon see that the average joe thinks 100$ is a fair price for a gold conion. I could go on here, but I will stop.

its just a predictable fact of the wide world of commerce ....

ebay provides the biggest market --
and marketing is $$ expensive

folks with no character. there used to be a time when a man's word meant something. you say you will be somewhere at noon you are there! these days it hard to find people like this.

Ebay is the only way to go IMO, because of the massive exposure it gives you, AND because you don't need to haggle with anyone.

agreed, I have been selling stuff on ebay since 1997. it was much different and much cheaper to sell, but there is just no comparison. I listed 2 boxes this week and they both sold within 10 minutes for my buy it now, I didnt expect to get close the the buy it how price actually. So the extra fees will be covered by the extra money I got on top of what i would have asked here or locally..

I would have still been shooting down lowball offers on local classifieds if I listed them there
