My Latest forray scored me this gem on FBM...Had to drive 10 hours round trip on the busiest hwys in the entire continent. The TO 401 & 400 corridors, both, there & back. I picked the Sunday so traffic would be calmer. No such luck...lol...

Plays well too....haven't tried recording yet. High end is abit rolled off from sitting but this thing has belts in good shape & runs silently. You can barley hear a cassette reel ticking if you put your ear to the top panel. I'm going to see what recording is like on this beast in a few days or so...fingers crossed....

So far so good...

Wow! Great find!

They are expensive decks. How is the transport mechanism in these?
The amorphous heads in the Aiwa Excelia XK-009 are considered superior because they offer exceptional magnetic characteristics, enhanced durability, and improved sound quality compared to traditional sendust or permalloy heads.
Akai GX (Glass & X'tal Ferrite) heads are renowned for extreme durability, often advertised with a 150,000-hour lifespan, making them virtually wear-resistant. Heard they can wear out the tapes.
I have mostly Naks and Akai decks in my collection.
I can work on common mechanical problems with Akai decks but when it comes to Nakamichi, I take it to a buddy of mine who is an expert in Nakamichi. He works on amplifiers, reel to reel decks and cassette decks.

He is a genius like our Superduper.

My round trip maximum was 7 hours to get a like new M90. I left right after my wife went to work and came before she returned.
So, I was safe for a day or two for not buying more electronic gadgets.
