Technics SL 12000 mk2 is a great second hand bargain...
...great resale value
As you noted great resale value... = expensive for a fully working one in good condition.
I guess "expensive" is subjective - I sold a pair of boxed 1200's with Shure M44-7's - my own personal owned from new set - for only 300 pounds not long ago.
I think you can pick them up in excellent working order for less than 180 new - that is small beans for a hifi component which is capable of reproducing great fidelity through a decent amp to anyone who is willing to chuck away 30-50 quid on a "maybe" working cassette based portable.
300 quid? Bargain for the pair! If I hadn't been 10000 miles away I'd've 'ad em!
Love the photo btw. Nice clean shot of the cart on vinyl!! Top drawer!
