heh.. yea i noticed that also.. but if you see the pics left by the one review on it.. they are open in the back.. otherwise i would not have purchased them.. but thanks for warning me.. ]

Frequency response: 500Hz to 5KHz

They are midrange drivers, 500Hz will not give you any usable bass reponse. If you were to use them they would need to a x-over

An example of what would be a better spec (Frequency response: 46-8,000 Hz) for the same sort of $$
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=297-441

Can you take a pic of the original drivers (motor) and the cabinets (inside) and post them up

Can you also confirm the impedence of the old drivers

imp. is 8 ohms.. there is a xover in the cabinet already.. the cabinet is sealed.. the ports you see on the far ends of the speaker cabinet have about a 2 cm slit in the back.. but the tweeter section is sealed off from the woofers.. the speakers you show do not have the correct demensions.. i looked all over.. and the ones i chose are a perfect fit.. we will hear if these will do the trick.. if not, i'll keep on searching..

on a good note.. i did find aluminum dustcap replacements.. so the replacement speakers will be chromed out..

just snagged a remote for the GX-88 from the era.. not an exact replacement.. as that would be next to impossible to find that.. but there was an advertisement from a magazine from 1989 on the GX-88 that gave me a great idea as to what it looked like.. the replacement belongs to a home stereo.. but they look identicle.. except for 2 extra buttons that were for station presets.. the original remote only had 4 buttons.. power.. volume up/down.. and mute.. almost positive the remote i just bought will work with the GX-88..

i also procured an original brand new STK amp chip!

another teaser :-D

They will not work, if you are unsure of frequency response and the role it plays read up on it before trying to buy drivers. These are midrange drivers and if fitted to your box without moding the xover they will probably die a very quick death.

This is an example frequency table, your drivers LOW end (of rated response) sits around C5 on the diagram.

If you need help on selecting a set of drivers you need to provide a good photo of the Xover, to receive help you also need to help by suppling the relevant information requested, if you don't want to post it in the open forum, send a PM.

The example I gave was to show what frequency response you should be looking at, I did not look at the size.

sorry Tshorba.. i see what you mean.. i searched for like 4 hours to locate an exact fit.. you see the plastic speaker fronts of the cabinets wont accept anything outside the demensions on the replacement speakers.. i wish i could find a comparable speaker with rubber surrounds.. as far as the xover i'll take a pic and post it later on today.. it's far from being a complicated xover.. i'm not looking for kaboom like bass.. just ear shattering loud as hell speakers.. as found in the 939 or HK-9000.. if you happen to find a comparable speaker shoot me a link..

If they're the same size as the KH-9000 then it's a 6.5 inch speaker. And those are in abundance!!! I mean look at mine

These are MB Quarts. I bypassed the internal crossover in each cabinet and used the supplied one that came with the component set and this baby sings!! The HK barely has any distortion at all and with these speakers they just pump out the jams like nobodies business.

Phono, CD & Aux? That's three external inputs on a boomer...
They need to have a word with the people who designed the Panasonic RX-DTs... :-)

i wish they were 6-1/2 inch Jboogie.. but there 6 inches.. which limits finding a speaker that fits perfectly..

That's the same crossover in the HK. look into Parts Express for the speakers. They get cheaper when you order multiples. Man I wish we lived closer so I could be a part of this.

well.. i was way off on the first pair of speakers.. Tsorba was on target.. they were strickly mid drivers.. a $60 boo boo.. anyways.. the good news is that the original speakers were in fact 6-1/2 inch drivers.. even though the back of the speakers say 16cm.. so i was able to find quality replacements.. also i will be adding a much more high quality xover and quality speaker wire.. might as well go all out eh? all the components will be here by january.. this is going to be an amazing documentary once she's complete.. many pics have been taken.. and plenty of video in the end..
definitely something to be excited about!

anyways here are the pics of the replacement woofers before adding chrome dustcaps..
