it doesn't take batteries, does it?

sweet mercy, it does!
I strongly suspect that, like the Kaboom, it doesn't give full bore boom unless running on AC.
160 watts from D-cells? Not unless you set fire to them... :-)

This Sharp is a great example of how they would big up the features on a boombox.
Check out the 11 sliders: 5 band EQ for left & right & balance :-)
...& that fake amplifier heatsink & the flashing lights at the bottom... excellent.
Still, it's got Dolby & a timer, so it's no cheapie.

Are both the woofers active?

yes they are.. and it has a crossover setup.. not just a cap for the tweeter.. an actual crossover.. i havent fired them up yet.. as the main unit will be getting belt changes and over all cleaning.. taking my time on it.. but should be done within the next 2 weeks.. video will be post on YouTube.. definitely something to be excited about.. as this is the first live video of this rare monster!

also step by step pics of the restoration will be posted on my brothers website once it is complete.. very exciting!

ok.. unit was put back together and fired up.. it works! problem though.. one of the speakers is blown.. and i know i can get alot more bass than these old timers can give me.. eh.. time for an upgrade! never was a fan of foam.. rubber surrounds are so much more rugged.. so now time to locate appropriate drivers!

one step closer..

oh.. and this thing wieghs a freakin ton!

ok.. speaker replacements are on the way!
not easy at all to find right measurment speakers..
lucky this company has what i need.. sure you lose the chrome dustcaps.. which is a little dissapointing.. but the original speakers also had dried out spiders..
these replacements also carry a 95db rating.. so they will be heard a mile away!
will need my dremel to shave off a small portion of the steel frame as seen from the original speakers..
i also had to take wieght in to account as anything heavier may break your back!
with these installed each speaker will wiegh in the nieghborhood of 12 pounds..
i will be keeping the chrome dustcapped tweeters.. they sound great and will compliment the new drivers..
here's the link to the new drivers..

TMR these are sealed back "MIDRANGES" not woofers!! These don't really move at all. Please check the back of the current speaker enclosed and see what I'm talking about. If I'm wrong then excuse me.

should have them by the 2nd of December.. looking for ways to chrome the dustcaps.. i tried to remove one from the old speakers.. but as hard as i tried to be careful.. there just to delicate.. and they dent waaay to easy.. it will look fantastic once i get it all together.. i promise..
