Finally after waiting for a week, I got it :-D My Hitachi TRK-8801W. The model number on this one is "rare" as I could not find any pics or info on it thru Google or any search engine :hmmm: In any case, it is a really nice unit. Very solid and heavy :-) Really nice sound and picks up reception very well and I really love those feather touch controls  Not a bass monster though  But I'm very happy to add this to my collection. As always enjoy the pics. Thanks and credit goes to BBBill for an excellent restoration job ;-)

Absolutely stunning. I have the 8800 and it looks identical apart from two things.
1st, mine has double leds where yours has needle meters.
2nd, yours is an out and out shelf queen that would compliment anybodys collection, mine looks like it came out a landfill.
Congrats on a great box.

Nice condition, that one. Never heard of the 8801, I like the needle VU meters. Does it sound much different to the 8190?

One-piece Hitachi boxes generally aren't bass monsters (excluding the 3Ds). I've had the 8080, 8200, 8290 and 8600, and none of them had much bass. But they look nice! :-)

No BASS at all, same as the 8190W  Mine is set to the max and I don't feel any "thump" at all. Yeah, I think they're just made for looks :-D

wish it sounded better, the hitachis in the vintage years were never really made for bass,my 8600 isnt over bassy,it does have a bit of bass and a loudness switch that is actually noticable when you switch it on or off, unlike the 81/8290 which makes no difference at all when you use it-its a shame as your 8801 could have been such an awesome sounder-as well as a looker!its a shame that hitachi waited till the comparitively ugly 3d series came out to make bassy sounding boxes-if only they had had that philosophy in the earlier 80s eh :hmmm:

The powerful Hitachi TRK-9150W series have very punchy bass! But now we're talking 15 volt 3 piece boxes.
The one piece Hitachi's sure look great though.
