First post here. I live about 40 miles from the Canadian border in Idaho.

My Avatar is my first "real" boombox, if you can accept a Yorx dual cassette K6062 as a true boombox
:)

Bought for me by my Grandma in 1984 when i was in Grade 8. I used to be so proud to carry it around town with my J. Geils Band tape blasting out "Those soft and fuzzy sweaters, too magical to touch" for everyone to enjoy lol. It sits in a place of honor in my living room. God I love that stereo.

Never had a giant Boombox, but an upper classman, Dane Fredricks (I still remember his name to this day) had a Sharp GF-777 and he would set it on the High School steps during lunch hour and I was just amazed at the sheer "presence" of it.

So i joined the BB-777 Kickstarter and signed up for the very last available Red Founders stereo.

Welcome.
I got my first boombox (a JcPenney model) in 1984.
I remember because one of the cassettes my mother included with it was Van Halen's 1984 along with Sports and Born in the U.S.A.
Great memories.

Be very welcome here . Most of us did not own a GF 777 in the 80's.
The only way i saw it was on tv in the freeez iou clip
I owned a hitachi trk 7000 that i bought after working a month in school holiday
Quality of that thing was poor though.......
