Bought the M90 that just sold for an unprecedented (for a box sans remote and packaging) £1,249.00?

At the exchange rate the way it is just now, that's a whopping $1947.91!

It look like a straight enough box, there's a vid (below) to show it working and the seller's patter reads well, mentioning its known flaws and expressing a clearly genuine fondness for the old thing but given that not fully one year back, a boxed one - with remote and in as close to mint order as something could be once it was taken out and played with - sold for a mere £895 on Gumtree, is this an encouraging sign of economic growth and does it mean that my hice are also going to creep out of negative equity again or that people are becoming increasingly desperate to have some good, usable nostalgia in their lives?

Discuss. ;-)

Ha, I saw that before it sold... I didn't even consider it. Eventually i'd like to have one, but I couldn't spend that much, even if it was in new in box. I just couldn't.

Yeh was watching that one. Clearly it wasn't me who bought it tho...I nearly had a coronary when I finally bought a box for more than £70...I'm still recovering :)

Well, it sold for a lot I think. No remote, no box, but in really good condition besides the antenna......

It looked in mint condition, with original paperwork also which is a nice touch.
Close, but that would require its box and both aerials to be with it. Certainly a pretty thing all the same, but for the sort of cash that gets you a Ford Mundano with a full year's test, FSH and no rust or faults? And the car comes with a halfway decent radio as well. ;-)

i doubt you will get anybody on here to admit that they just threw down nearly 2k on a boombox. i sure wouldn't tell anybody, i'd be too ashamed, in fact i think i would get me some professional financial counseling :dunce:

What about that Aiwa in my other post, have you seen one of those before John?
I've seen a few of those Aiwas come up for sale but I never saw one in person. They're very cool. I'd like to grab one so that I can make recordings onto mini-cassettes because I have a few mini-cassette boomboxes.

Sorry mate, I missed that post somehow. But yes, I was watching that one too, I know nothing about the model but the seller is someone I've done loads of radio-related transactions with over the past ten years and knowing how scrupulous the fella is, someone will have won themselves a nice buy with that set. I love the idea of it, mad as a box of frogs and definitely tech for its own sake rather than a solution to any genuine need so just my kind of thing.
I have arms that are much shorter than my pockets though and would only have gone to around £70 for it, damn tightwad that I am. :-D

Ha ha nothing wrong with being a Northern skinflint! :)
Indeed so! Dad is Aberdonian and they're the tightest people anywhere in the entire British Isles though Mother is English and relatively generous so I guess I'm somewhere between the pair.
Some say that the old boy once had to be rescued from a pay-as-you-leave bus after he'd been on there for a month and had become quite dehydrated.

Though I understood us Yorkshiremen were known to be like the Scots but with the generosity wrung out :)

Although I didn't buy it (the shipping alone would make me crap my pants) I don't know why anyone who HAS the $$ would be ashamed if they bought it.

Every week I watch the Barrett/ Jackson auctions and see cars that cost $2000.00 in the 60's go for over $100,000.00! None of those new owners seem ashamed of it.

If you got the $$ and you want something ..by all means stimulate the economy and get what you want.

I just wish I had some of that $$.....................................Hello Lamboghini........:)
