Halloween in the Dark

California got it's first storm of the year last night and the Southland got decent heavy rain. Within an hour of the rain coming down the power went off where I live starting around 10pm. After about 15 minutes, when I realized it wasn't coming back on, I went into the Boom Room to grab a radio to provide some entertainment.

With flashlight in hand I grabbed the J1, since I was just using it, dragged it into the living room, hit the power button and...nothing..."Oh yeah, I pulled the batteries to put in the M70 for last weekends beach trip". Back into the Boom Room to grab the M70. "Oh yeah, the M70 is a JDM Victor with an FM dial that only goes to 90mHz "DAMN".

OK, back into the Boom Room to grab the Discolite, I know it has batteries in it "...and dead! Fuuuuuu"

Then I remembered, this little guy has batteries in it. In fact when I traded a guy off Craigslist for it for some camping chairs and a hiking back pack it came with batteries, at the beginning of the year!

YEP, powered right up!

So, my wife and I sat in a candle lit house, on halloween :scream: listening to the local classic Rock station playing Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.

I have to say, with it's 3 band EQ, this radio sounds GREAT and perfect for an emergency such as this.

Now that's one dam good Halloween night! That's a nice GE you got there, seems like it came through just fine in your time of need, ain't nothin like some good ambiance by boombox and candlelight, and like ghetteaux les fabulous said, some liquid refreshments

awesome! i have a tiny pos mono box that runs on aa batteries and it has come in handy often. even has a tape deck and gets great battery life , i have yet to be rescues by an m90 in a power outage but that little korean tatung mono has many times and is one of the 10 boomboxes that share the coveted display area in my bedroom. i limit myself to 10 so i'm not tripping over the basterds.

Last time I had the need for a radio due to an extended power outage was during one of the hurricanes that clobbered New York State a couple years back. It was a recently purchased Emerson AM/FM CD monobox like the one in this video...

Woke up to the power out AGAIN. Some Dilbert crashed into an electrical box after 1:00am. Power has been out for 8 hours now. Damn it, NASCAR race is on today. I got out my best tuner to try to catch the race. Southern California Edison has no prediction on when it will be restored :angry:
