Having pulled an M9994 down to parts, I can attest to the build quality of the Sanyo.
The M9994 & M9998 are great early Sanyos but they are difficult to work on and as such, many are left in collections with disabled decks, tuners etc. Ever tried pulling a deck from an M9998?!
My Sanyos have proven the most fault prone and most difficult to work on units for an electronics novice like me. :-(

I would say Pioneers are the worst! I have 3 high ends with tape deck issues that gave me lots of gray hairs.......grrrrr!
I just keep them for the looks, radio, line in and above all....the looks
