Got an M80

Got this M80 the other day, i've never been fully into its looks as i'm not a big fan of the waffle grills but was intrigued by the radio it has digital tuner and also being a JVC M series box its going to sound fairly good.

Well the deck is dead, totally unresponsive but I knew that when I bought it, but the radio is fully working, it has a row of LEDs instead of a string pulley system, it must have been very advanced in its day.
I pulled out my M70 for a sound off. The M80 does not have the quality or the volume of the M70. I had them both running at the same time and even asked my wife, who pretty much dislikes all boxes so has no bias, which she thought sounded best. She said the 70 was like an HD TV and the other was not.
The M80 is still a good box though and would still probably out perform must the boxes in my collection.
For the record its size and weight are both a little less than the M70

I've never seen or heard an M60 but i'm not sure why the M80 wasn't named the M60 as its just behind the M70, not inbetween the 70 and 90 as its number suggests.

Looks sweet next to the 70 Dave..... I think they have the same deck as the 60!

sound quality might only be part if it. The features (soft logo deck and tuner) might be the reason for the higher number model. Besides, there's already am M60.

The M70 looks so much better, and the M70 doesn't even look that good ! Now the M50, that is one good-looking JVC, too bad its smaller.

The M90 beats the M70 hands down. & the Sony FH kills the M90. & my small home receiver with the small speakers blows up the FH. & my larger receiver with the large speakers......

You missed one in between the M90 and the small home receiver with the small speakers.

Put some M50 woofers in that M80 & hear a completely different beast. I did that for my DISCO M80 & the sound is like night & day....

I was never a big "waffle grill" guy either, but the look kinda grows on you after a while. I bought an M80 a few months back but it needs some major cleaning still. Yours looks great! I love the JVC's. Congrats on yours Looks like its in nice cosmetic shape!
