So, I've noticed there are some of you guys that are really friggin' awesome at fixing just about anything. And more often than not, pretty creative in the fix too. So that got me to thinking....do you have more fun finding a mint box, or like Dr. Frankenstien, :frankenstein: , is it more fun for you to rebuild someone else's discarded box?

:hmmm:

If it's the right model, I really do not care what condition it is in - it only changes the price.

That given I rather enjoy units that need a little work and can be bought for a little less.
BUT I mostly enjoy finding mint boomers for even less money ;-)

I love all my boomboxes but I prefer finding the them in need of some tlc. I love to paint them so when I find one that needs a full repaint it get the juices flowing. Although it is a very detailed process to completely strip down a boombox and properly prep it for paint the end result is well worth all the work. To be able to look at and listen to something I restored is a big part of why I love this hobby.... :-D

i'm with these guys,i prefure nice condition boxes that are dirty and need a little work, that i can fix up and give a good clean and bring it up to its former beautifull state, just something so i can put my own stamp on it and make it mine, show that i've earned it..

we are a stange breed us collectors, its odd that we prefure things to be not quite mint,i guess we think it would be a bit boring if we get something that does'nt need anything doing to it,i think we like to sit and play, fiddle, fix, repair, clean lol..

Since I am mainly finding things on epay, I like when the boxes need more work...lowers the price and also, I've found that once I spend a day/ night bringing one back to life there is a little more satisfaction when I spend time with them. Now, that might change if I stumble across a site that offers mint, fully functioning grails at half the price with no shipping gouge. Mmmmm...now that's a site

--its such an easy pleasure to receive a big // great sounding 100% working // minty box --
then just proceed to the plug 'n play mode   and all you ever have to do is::
select your tapes and/or aim your antenna correctly :-D
 :breakdance:

as a 'deeper' thought :hmmm: :hmmm:
it depends on the box ...
like i would prefer to get a fked up m90 than a NIB panny 5500 or those good types

A like finding a box that just needs a few things (mechanical/ cosmetic). I'll always looks for the diamond in the rough...that just needs a wee amount of TLC! :-)

Although i do enjoy the cleaning and making them shine any major repairs are
out for me
and......

im a sucker for minty shelf queens

I know some here think they should all be out on the street being
used, but i have my users that i throw in the car when heading to a party
or bbq. but i also have some shelf queens that do not leave the house !! :-D

yeah - i'm with aza

i dig a mint find - though a cut price due to minor easy-fix issues is always appealing.

some stay cool on the shelf, some get out and rock the spot as and when duty calls.
