Goldstar TSR-801 Parts

I have a Goldstar TSR-801 which seems to be as good as expected except for the cassette mechanism. When I press play the botton will not fully depress. I have taken it apart and it looks like there is a carbon plastic plate that is pushed up too far and won't let the button press down. Other buttons seem to work. Is it possible that someone may have parts for this box?

You probably don't need parts i would say at a guess. I know this box very well and have various threads on it in the Tech section under Goldstar. The tape button section clips off the bottom of the tape mech after two screws are taken out. Then you'll need to disassemble that whole section and clean out the old hard grease. There are two small compression springs which may be weakened over the decades and unable to do their job. I think i replaced mine with pen springs cut to a suitable length.

Thank you both for the replies. I'll take it apart again this week and check springs and take pictures. I do remember that the button mechanism is held together with plastic brads so taking it apart might be an issue. I can probably get some degreaser sprayed in there, though.

Any dried and crusty grease removed through a degreaser would have to be replaced though. It didn't magically just appear there, was probably greased originally and over time, gummed up. Freeing up the mechanism with, say, isopropyl may allow it to work again but without fresh lubricant, may be short lived.

It comes apart and goes back together ok despite the plastic fixings you mention. Just be methodical and lay it all out. The two springs force a metal plate with notches in to the left. That keeps the buttons depressed when you want them to be. Btw i removed ALL grease but never put ANY back in! It worked better that way. Maintenance free.

A great alternative to no grease is a dry spray lube.
It sprays on like water so it gets everywhere but dries completely and leaves a dry film lubricant behind.
I've used Super Lube's in the past but there are quite a few different brands.
