What's up guys here is my latest find...It has taken me a while to aquire one of these..over the past year I have seen a very few of these boxes come up for sale ...The one that I can remember the best was the boxed 9696z on ebay that sold for over 1600$ that was georgus  But i did not have the funds for that  ....So i kept looking and a few others i saw were missing the grills ...I really wanted one with the grills...So this one I was able to get with them but the radio shows alot of neglect over the years as you will see in the photos....But the good part is the speakers are all good so are the sliders just real dirty..well this brings me to a restoration   Unfortunetly my work schedule is still crazy but my guy has steped into the picture on this one ....I droped it off to him last night and he stripedthe box from top to bottom for me ...So today I recieved a call that it was all apart and to come by and get all the parts so i can begin cleaning and painting what needs to be done while he works on the sliders and the tape deck for me  ....I was able to clean out the battery box from all the acid that leaked from bad batterys ...also I cleand the top ,cassing and some of the trims ...here are a few pics of how far I got

Killer Jimmy!!
That looks fantastic so far, glad your doing yours now as I'm starting
the same box!
I'm sure yours will look a little better!

Guess what,I'm starting my GF-9696Z restoration tomorrow!!

I just have painted speakers with decent success but don't feel comfortable
painting a case yet. :hmmm:

But I'll have it stripped down and install my handle and will clean
everything.
Just need to order belts for mine.
Good luck and thanks for these photos!! :-)
Let me know when parts come In,should be there hopefully tomorrow. :-)

Well this one is not easy :hmmm: Today is very cold here so It's making it hard to paint ...my portable heater is only bringing my room to 55 degrees so im letting it air dry enough to bring it back into the house and then bake it with a hair dryer ...so far so good paint is curing very well and I have made some progress ...I was even able to paint the handel by suspending it from the celing on a piece of rope. I need now to let it cure overnight and tommorow I should be able to get the clearcoat on it  here are some pics...primed...painted and a little crazyness seeing the nut with a hairdryer

you guys are awesome   .....Well my neighbor came to the rescue wth a propane heater :smooch: so I was able to apply clearcoat   the back and front of the box i used a matte clear this way it doesnt look flat but has aslight gloss...It's very close to the original finish..let me know what you guys think....I really wanted to do something with the top of the radio plate but was to risky ..the felt is very old and I really dont want to ruin it by trying to take it take it off so im gonna leave it alone there is a knick on the plate where the volume slide sits...but I know from previous mistakes to leave it be :-D here are the pics of it should look like....I love it hope you all do enjoy..... :breakdance:
