While flipping through eBay yesterday I found this little GE local to me. It was dirt cheap and the guy offered local pickup. I made him a cheap offer and he took it!

I don't normally collect mini's, I have a few, but this one just grabbed my eye.

It features a 3 inch TV and Micro Cassette as well as AM/FM and Line In and it all works. It has a tuning knob at each end, one for radio, one for TV. It takes 7 C cell's.

It's really small, even among my other mini's it's the smallest one. It gets pretty darn loud too, already had the wife in here yelling at me to turn it down :w00t:

They are cool. Its really cool that they have a microcassette included too. You never know when you might need that feature. I was given a box of micro cassettes from my grandfathers estate -> he used a micro recorder when he took geniology trips to see his mother and other relatives over 30 years ago. SOOO cool to have that I have used mine to listen to them a time or 2, yep they still work!! I of course digitized them as well.. :-D

PS yours is in much better condition than mine :-P

I was doing some reseach last night over at tapeheads.com and apparently they made hifi metal micro cassettes and described the differences between the micro recorders and the higher quality stereo micro cassette music player. The number one thing to look for is if the micro deck has a capstan wheel. Micro recoders do not and the sounds quality is allot lower. I want to get some metal tapes and make some mix tapes.

Hey I got a few questions. So I found the same box at a local swap meet. Of course I had to buy it. Lol anyway.. The condition was in pretty great shape.. No rust or corrosion .. In the battery compartment it was clean as it can be. BUT. .. For some odd reason after putting brand new Duracell c batteries.. It did not turn on.. I don't have the ac power cord as well.. The guy who sold it was an old man and was sincere saying it works and I won't regret the purchase. Any suggestions? I thought it would work with as simple as putting new batteries in it. Pls help. Thanks!!

What a great find---
Both the micro cassette and
the "hatch" covering the upper controls are totally unique----

I just had a look at mine and the AC plug area, does have a tiny switch in it. Chances are that is dirty and needs to be cleaned. That could prevent the unit from powering up on batteries.

I have never opened this little GE, but with any CRT TV you need to be careful when poking around.

Follow the instructions on this youtube video on how to discharge the TV tube before you begin working on that switch.

I'm quite the noob too when it comes to technical electrical issues! but once when my GF-9191 seemed to die and wouldn't turn on at all I opened it up and it turned out to be a small fuse on the power board that had blown. All the boxes I have worked on seem to have the same fuse so may be worth checking it out if you haven't already...
